InactiveWhat do you think? Do you believe than IR PPI such as Zegerid or prilosec/prevacid+caracream work better than DR PPI-solutabs??
I would love to hear your views on that one as I am wondering if I shouldnt switch from solutabs to Prevacid compounded in caracream?
thanks

InactivePersonally…I think whatever you give the right timing and the right dose is most important.
All our babies are on a variety of types and combinations and I think we have all had to experiement a little to get it right (eg Alana started on Losec (prilosec) and ended up on Zoton (prevacid) and started of at 10mg and ended up on 30mg). Some seem to do well on one PPI and not another.
If you are having trouble with timing the solutabs then a switch would sound like a good option (we don’t have it here in Aus and I definately would have switched if we did…just to make life a little bit easier)!
Goodluck, whatever you decide.

InactiveThanks Therese. In the UK its also called zoton- weird name I agree!- fastabs.
Its interesting that you did switch from losec to zoton as we also did as I felt it was a limited success with dd. we did the change over to zoton about 1.5 weeks ago and so far its not bad. Hope it will improve even further.
Out of interest why did you swithc to zoton ? did you find it works better with your dd?
goodluck with weaning- I read on another post! hope she doesnt need it anymore!

InactiveI agree with Therese that it depends on the baby. I think that they both can work equally well as long as you can time the meals properly. Marci-kids thinks that immediate release works better, as it has the added advantage of neutralizing any acid that’s in the stomach immediately. They’ve also told me that if the stomach doesn’t empty properly (like in cases of DGE) then the delayed release won’t work as well as there will always be some food lingering in there that can interfere with the way the DR PPI works.
We had much better success with prevacid then losec for some reason, and due to Hailey’s feeding aversion, it seems that IR is the only way for us. I’ve recently tried to solutabs again, but still can’t get this kid to eat a meal after.

InactiveNat…I didn’t give losec very long. I felt like Alana had a reaction to it (its a long time ago now and I can’t recall the exact details…but as soon as I started giving it she got very irritable and screamy and crampy- you could feel her belly tighter). Maybe if I had given it more than 4 days those symptoms would ahve resolved. Also it was a pain to give. I switched to Zoton because I thought the strawberry suspension would be easier to give and I never had the above symptoms with it. I’ve had no probs with it…although I think others might have reacted (the suspension has lots of other things in it). So long answer…but yes I think she did better with it. Just goes to show how individual these bubs are
