InactiveHi Everyone…
I am in serious need of some encouragement tonight. DS is turned a year old this month, and is still having bad silent reflux. He chokes on it once in awhile too. Tonight, he has choked on it more than usual, like 2 or 3 times. We are on a pretty high dose of prevacid, and he has had an endoscopy, bronchoscopy, impedance study, upper GI, and 2 swallow studies. So, we have done almost all testing that pertains to reflux. The endoscopy and broncoscopy showed no damage, which is good. The swallow study that we took in July showed that he had a pretty bad aspiration problem. We repeated the study a couple weeks ago, and it showed that the aspiration issue has improved a lot, but we are not totally out of the woods yet.
Anyway, what I want to ask is could his reflux still improve? He has already hit the 12 month marker, which I thought was when this stuff was supposed to go away. I am really getting depressed about it now though because I am not seeing much of an improvement. In the last month, we tried switching him from the thickened nutramigen to whole milk, which was horrible. His reflux went through the roof. We then tried soy, which didn’t work for us either. Now, we are trying goats milk, and it seems to irritate his reflux too, but not as bad as the whole milk.
Has anyone had an LO with bad reflux at 12 months grow out of it later on? If so, please tell me about it. I am in need of some hope!!!! Thanks so much for your support. I am at my wit’s end.

InactiveI am so sorry that you are losing hope! Hang in there! My daughter had severe reflux but it was well controlled with her medicine after 4 months old. She is now 17 months old and on a partial dose (12 mgs per day down from 36mgs per day). I’m thrilled to be at a lower dose, but like you, I’m also anxious for this to all be over with. Don’t give up hope yet. There is still time for him to outgrow it. I had my heart set on the magic “12 months” as well so I know how you feel. Keep doing everything you’re doing…maybe stick with nutramigen a little longer. We had a few failed milk trials with Sarah before we were finally able to do whole milk at 14 months. I hope it all works out for you and Carter!

InactiveHang in there! My son was still pretty bad with reflux and mspi at 1 year but all of a sudden at 15 months-it was magic. He slowly started dairy (butter, yogurt, cheese, then milk) which took 6 weeks to do but I think the slow integration helped his system adjust and we then weaned prevacid. Also, I think it helps to only try weaning/dairy trials every 3 months until 2 years so their system still has time to mature.
It’ll get better! Just keep the faith and a big hug to you.

Thank you so much!! That is what I needed to hear. We went to a Chiropractor yesterday, who was referred to us by a friend whose son had terrible food allergies and intolerances. This guy improved their situation dramatically. So, I really think he is going to be able to help Carter. I am pretty sure he has some food intolerances that are making his situation worse. The Chiropractor sent us home with a kit to test him for milk, egg, soy, and wheat intolerance. We are overnighting it to the lab on Monday. I think finding out his food intolerances and eliminating them from his diet will help immensely.
Anyway, thanks for your support. It really helped!!
