Seth always starts crying out in his sleep about 5:30 in the morning (about 1 hour or so before getting up). I am not sure if he is awake but he whimpers and sometimes moves around. Do you think this could be reflux related or is this a normal part of the sleep cycle? He has also had night terrors and they are nothing like that. Our GI mentioned one time that the Prevacid dose generally last 12 hours and this would be almost the exact time it would be wearing off if that is true.

If so, then I wouldn’t think it’s reflux, because it’s been so many hours since he was last fed, that even if the prevacid was wearing off, there shouldn’t really be any food to make the reflux flare up. Anyhow, just really thinking out loud.
Sarah always woke up about an hour before she was getting up for good… played around, and then went back to sleep. But she never cried. I guess when they cry out, that’s what really makes it so hard to know if it’s pain or not.

reflux. Is he getting molars or anything like that? I’ve read many times that
our babes are in a very light/restless sleep from 4-6 am so if anything at all
is bothering them (teeth, hunger, reflux), they are likely to notice it then. knb182006-9-5 10:44:26

Most mornings if I get in there quickly and give him his nuk he’ll go back to sleep, but often he is awake and babbling for anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour before going back to sleep. I really think with him it’s related to what Karen said; he’s in a light sleep at that time and any noise (dh or me snoring, sisters sneezing, coughing, etc.) wakes him up. Also, I think he’s an early riser, much to my dismay, because I am definitely not.
September 5, 2006 at 1:44 pm #12983AnonymousInactiveMy daughter always wakes up around 5:30…sometimes she goes back to sleep and sometimes she doesn’t…but she never seems in pain so we don’t go in and get her until 6am or until she starts to fuss. I have heard her cry out in her sleep like that before but was told that can be completely normal. 5:30 is also when my does of prevacid would be wearing off, but since she doesn’t seem to be in pain, I don’t think it is reflux…as long as your little one isn’t in pain, I wouldn’t worry about it. 🙂

Owen does the exact same thing – he wakes up around 5am and sometimes he goes back to sleep, other times he doesn’t – ugh. Owen has been off of his prevacid for 5 months now (I think) and he doesn’t show any signs of reflux at all, so I’d imagine this is a normal sleep cycle thing like everyone else has said.
That said – it’s awful, isn’t it??? I thought we’d all be sleeping a lot better by now!
