InactiveOkay so I have a cute little 12″ beagle (lily). I have had her for just over 5 years. She will be 9 in October. She is a bit neurotic and we have always known that, but lately she is driving me absolutely crazy. Last night for example…. I put Cooper down at 9pm and of course I go to bed when he goes to bed b/c I am still not sure if we are going to have a good night. Well since DH was still at work, she decided that she needed to sleep in the floor in Cooper’s room, not a big deal except that she snores like an 80 yr old man with sleep apnea. So I made her come in our room and get in bed with me b/c I knew that when DH did come home she would bark and probably wake Cooper up. Well when I got up to feed him at 3;30am she decided it was time to go out…. So DH had to take her out. When I got up again at 5am to give him his paci, she decided it was once again time to go out…. and since we have hard wood floors her nails tap constantly outside of his door… which makes things worse. She is driving me crazy. Any ideas on how to make things better vs getting rid of her…. only kidding I could never do that. I just needed to vent.

InactiveHmmm….sounds like your dog is more trouble than the baby!

Sorry, no advice here. I’ve never been good at training dogs. I hope you find some solutions soon.June 2, 2007 at 11:22 am #35368Anonymous
InactiveI can totally relate Beth. We have a cocker spaniel maltese mix,and she is pretty high strung. She was the “baby” of the family before my daughter came along, and I don’t think she ever got over being displaced. She still hasn’t quite figured out that she is actually a dog.

I’ve wanted to kill her a few times (not really) since Ben’s birth, as she always seems to bark, flap her ears, or walk down the squeaky hall just as I was getting him to sleep.
She barks like a fiend whenever anyone comes to the door, and nothing we’ve done discourages this. She is actually afraid of the noise you make when you blow bubbles, kinda like a raspberry. Ben does this, and she runs to the back room. Pretty funny.
Don’t know if there’s anything you can do. I had a beagle growing up, and he was notoriously strong headed, stubborn and hard to train. We called him the “evil genius.” Be peed on my brother’s pillow once and pulled a blanket over on top of it to hide it!

Anyway, hope Lily gets a bit better for you soon.

InactiveYeah, I did get rid of DH’s dog when we had Griffin. Sorry, not a dog lover here. (don’t hate me
) I have no solutions for you, just sympathy! Our dog used to bark constantly, especially if I wouldn’t let her in the room she wanted to be in. Then the final straw was she kept knocking Griffin over when he started to walk and therefore he wanted me to carry him everywhere. Dog had to go….. Couldn’t see getting rid of the kid!

InactiveUgh! I know where you are coming from! Our dog was my little baby before Addy arrived and now we joke that I hate her! She’s a little boston terrier and super sweet but she annoys the crap out of me! Everyone told me after a few months of adjusting to having a new baby, I would go back to my old ways and love her again…..16 months and no sign of it changing!

Sorry I couldn’t be of any help…we’re in the same boat!

InactiveWe have two dogs here and they drive me crazy. But I think it has been an easier transition for them because they have each other. We have transitioned them to basically outside dogs except for night time.
My mum offered to take them for us (not that we would) but we could definately never do it because Alana loves them big time already.
We joke that Alana’s first sentences will be Kira (the beagle/kelpie cross) shutup or Gaby (the aussie terrier) stop sooking.
