For those of you giving your little ones domperidone (motilium) I was just wondering how you get it prepared? We would like to try this again with hailey, but I hate the thought of having to get it compounded again… I just don’t feel like I can trust the compounding pharmacy to do things correctly after this whole PPI fiasco!! Also, just wondering what is the concentration of your medicine and how much/how often do you give it?
(I realize that this probably doesn’t apply to many of you, as I don’t think you can get this med in the US).
February 20, 2006 at 10:39 am #1971AnonymousInactiveUnfortunately we cant get motilium here. I wish we could since I’ve heard positive things about it. I cant give you any helpful advice on your post, but I was wondering if you were going to push for a stomach emptying scan as well?
February 20, 2006 at 3:05 pm #1992AnonymousInactiveI’m not sure…especially hard since she doesn’t eat on command. Might just retry the motilium…

Here in Spain, it is just a solution that is already prepared — it is used for adults and children… there are also the pills which are really small but really concentrated so they woudl not work for Hailey.
All i can offer is to mail you some maybe? I don´t know if that is going to work because of the trip (ie what temp it is at or anything like that). Or i could bring some next time i am in new york adn we can try and see if someone we know is traveling between toronto and new york?? Let me know.
As you know you do not need any prescriptions here… so if anybody else wants to try, let me know…
February 22, 2006 at 9:33 am #2187AnonymousInactiveThanks for the offer, Thais. But I’m not sure if you can mail meds. Just curiously, can you get the prevacid solutabs in Spain? We are thinking of trying them with Hailey as she is now vomitting up her compounded losec no matter which way we give it, so we are desperate to try something else…only problem, they don’t have them here. I am trying to find someone who will write us a US script, and then go down to the US to get it there. Same thing for the pepcid, since we also can’t get this in Canada…WHY? I have no idea! But it sure is frustrating.
February 22, 2006 at 9:50 am #2189AnonymousInactiveUnfortunately, no solutabs…. we do have omeprazole and lansoprazole in capsules… maybe you can get hailey to take them with a bit of apple sauce?? Maybe a stretch for her…
i know you cannot mail them but if nobody asks…. don´t know what worse thing they can do to you is… prob confiscate??
There is no pepcid here…. they give babies effervescent zantac instead — it just tastes bad though
February 22, 2006 at 12:04 pm #2196AnonymousInactiveThat’s the problem with everything here. Either it tastes bad or it doesn’t work. It’s fine for most kids, but for fussy orally aversive non-eaters like Hailey, forcing the syringe down their throat just makes everything worse. Hopefully once we get her taking solids, I can try to open capsules. I’ve called around again today, and they said that they can’t order the solutabs or the pepcid from the US for us, but I thought it was worth a shot. I think I just have to keep trying, because right now things look pretty grim. Thanks for the offer, but I couldn’t sleep at night thinking about it…I’m not a risk taker.
February 22, 2006 at 12:31 pm #2200AnonymousInactiveLori – your Mom lives in the US, right? Can your family stay with her
for a few weeks and go to a Ped while there (under pretense of moving
there) and get a prescription for the Pepcid and Solutabs? Probably
whacky but just a thought…February 22, 2006 at 1:33 pm #2203AnonymousInactiveI think Karen has a great idea. It might be worth a try!
February 22, 2006 at 7:40 pm #2226AnonymousInactivePepcid taste pretty good, Brian likes it, but prevacid solutab does not taste so well, it is a struggle to get him take it.
February 22, 2006 at 8:03 pm #2228AnonymousInactiveI like Karen’s idea too. Prevacid Solutabs were our lifesaver!
February 22, 2006 at 9:59 pm #2231AnonymousInactiveThanks for the idea Karen. Believe me, I’ve thought about it. But after talking to some people I know who are doctors, apparently no one would write a script for it as it just seems fishy- no insurance, no visa etc. Also, Hailey is so “unportable” that it’s just not possible to pick her up and take her away. She would lose it and as it is, she barely eats at home- not at all outside of her environment. I’m working on a few other ideas though. Thanks again.
February 28, 2006 at 3:28 pm #2684AnonymousInactiveLori, my dd was on motility drugs like Reglan and Erythromycin and did very badly on them and spittings did not improve a bit. We had been on a trip to our native (India) and the doc there promptly put her on Domperidone. It worked! Its in liquid form called Gastractiv (mfgs: Johnson & Johnson) and we even got back a few bottles of it (with prescription ofcourse). But, her Ped her asked us to discontinue becoz its not used here probably becoz some guys used here without proper knowledge (thats what my pharmacist says). I requested her to retry it as it was working..but both Ped and GI are firm on not retrying it.
