InactiveWe took Sarah to the doctor yesterday and she now weighs 18lb 12oz at 8 months old. Out of curiosity, I visited marci-kids to check her dose for 20mg packets of Zegerid and was surprised to see it had gone DOWN! I know that babies metabolize meds faster than adults, but I didn’t think you started reducing the dosage at 8 months? I’m happy where we’re at, and I’m not going to stop giving her the amount that I am…I was just surprised I guess. Has anyone else lowered their baby’s dose b/c of the calculator and NOT b/c you were trying to wean?
FYI – She now gets approx 33-35mg a day and the calculator said 27-30mg.
Hmmmm

InactiveI have heard that the dosing calculator isn’t correct. I think if you used the 40mg chart its different. I am not sure which one is correct. Colt was on more than that at 8 months so I think its sounds like a good dosage. I would just keep giving it to her since its been working.

dr phillips cleared this up for us, i cant remember the name of the thread though.
both calcs are correct. its just that the dosing is different for the 40 mg packs and the 20 mg packs becaues of the buffer.December 27, 2006 at 10:21 pm #21162Anonymous

Funny, at the time it didn’t make sense to me, but now it does. Guess I must
be getting at least a little more sleep now!

InactiveYeah, I know the calculators are different and both correct. I was just surprised that her recommended dose is already going DOWN on the calculator when she’s only 8 months old. I figured we’d still have some more increases before we hit the decline or even plateaud? (sp?) That’s what I was curious about???

i think those are just general guidelines. of course, there are babies that will require more meds at this age, and some that will require less. i know Trace is one of the babies with more severe reflux and requires extremely high doses of PPI.

InactiveHi Natalia – I remember reading on another thread that you increased Trace’s dose to 54mg! Wow! Is he doing much better on that dosage?
How is he feeling? Any signs that things are getting better?

Inactiveactaully he requires more then that now.
last night i made a switch to prevacid/caracream as we cant afford zegerid. prevacid is a stronger med, and i am starting him on about 24 mg and im going to see how it goes.
he is still sick

InactiveI hope the prevacid works out for him!!! I thought he couldn’t tolerate it before…although I could be thinking of another baby? I am so sorry to hear he is still sick. Are you feeling better? Is he still throwing up and having diarrhea? Poor baby and poor mommy! Hang in there!
