Dosing of PPI’s

I am sure this information is here somewhere on the forum but having little time to read and post I thought Id post a new message asking……

Are PPI’s weight dependent to determine dosing?

Reason I am asking is because Aidan was doing wonderfully on Prilosec suspension 2mg/ml, 3.5ml 3xs per day, or 21 mg per day. Now it seems like once again he has breakthrough reflux episodes which are alleviated by 1tsp of Mylanta given while he is crying and arching his back and acting like he is miserable and in pain. These episodes usually occur 1-2 hours before he is due another dose of Prilosec.

Aidan’s GI doctor was very receptive to increasing his dosage but wanted to dose up and I am thinking its time to dose up again to get his symptoms under control. I may have to ask her to just give the maximum dosage for his weight as allowed by the MarciKids website. (At 18lbs 8oz he can receive up to 36mg a day.)

yes, you have to increase as they grow. but its not as weight sensitive as say, zantac. good luck.
