InactiveDo any of you feel that using these bottles with the y cut nipple have
helped your baby’s reflux/and or gas. I use the Avent bottles with the
variable flow nipple which helps with the cereal in the bottle. Thanks

InactiveThe Avent bottles were a disaster for us. Sebastian has done much better on the DB. I used the Y cut with cereal for a couple of weeks and then Sebastain decided that he did not like it and would just choke and spit it out. I just stoped trying to put cereal in the bottle because he hated it, but for the short time it did it, it worked fine.

InactiveWhen I was thickening Myles’ bottles I did use the Y-cut Dr. Brown’s. They were too fast for him until he was about five months old, but Myles really preferred a slow flow, so I think most babies would do fine with the Y-cut for thickened feeds.
None of my three liked or did well with Avent bottles. I think they swallowed more air with them because they did not latch properly onto the wide nipple.

InactiveWe are now using Y-cut with Carter and we used them with Dylan. We thicken pretty thick, so the flow he still has to work at so it is not too fast. We used rice with Dylan so I decided to give oatmeal a try this time and it has really worked with his pooping! More fiber than the Rice and still soy free. I do a 5 ounce bottle of Neocate with 3 TBSPs of Oatmeal so it is like a milkshake.
Dr. Browns have been the best bottles for us (and we have tried many), but I think it just depends on your baby…. Sometimes a lot of trial and error…..
We have moved up to the bigger bottles (8 ounce size) and I have about 18 4 ounce Dr. Browns. If you (or anyone) wanted to try them without buying them, you could just buy some new nipples for them. They are all hardly used.
Hang in there!

InactiveThanks everyone. Ann Marie, thanks for the offer, but I went right out to buy them. Anyway, I found that my DS is having trouble sucking from the y-cut. His bottles (BM plus 1tbsp of oatmeal per 4oz) are not that thick. It took him over 1 hr to drink 4oz, Normally I would not let him drink this long, but I wanted to see if he would get the hang of it. I know it is not recommended, but the Avent variable flow nipple fit on this bottle and I am hoping it will still work. Any suggestions. I think he just has a poor suck reflex.

InactiveI use Dr. Brown’s, but we don’t use the Y nipple. I think Dr. Brown’s are great though. Carson does much better with them.
