InactiveHI,
Just wanted to hear from other mothers who LO is on PPI’s if they feed
really
well again. My LO is feeding, not crying/screaming as before but
occassionally has a cough (reflux) and it puts him off. He is much better
at
feeding, but not like other babies. We do have to sing to him to keep him
happy too!
He eats about 750ml (5 1/2 months) a day, not the 1100ml other babies
eat.
Love to hear your feeding trials and errors!
Is this as good as it gets?

InactiveI think all babies are different. It depends on so many factors. Some get progressively better in terms of eating once starting the PPI as the damage heals. Some have already developed feeding aversions, and the eating doesn’t improve.
Hailey’s aversion was already well established when her reflux got well controlled on her PPI. Her feeding never improved, we had to sleep feed, and ultimately ended up in feeding therapy. She still has issues.
You may continue to see improvements as her reflux improves, and as eating doesn’t bother her. Good luck.

InactiveHello and welcome.
How long has he been on a ppi? It usually takes about two weeks to see the full effect. If it’s been more than two weeks and you still have to sing to him or distract him or coax him to eat, I would bet that he needs a higher dose. My son improved initially when he first started Prevacid but his dose was too low and he soon went back to not eating. We had to increase his dose several times before we saw lasting relief.

InactiveThanks for your feedback, it seems we can never stay on top of the dose,
we have moved on from the sleep feed (except for bedtime feed, through
habit), but I suspect the dose is just handling it. He has been on 24mg of
Losec for over 1 week now. When we increased the dose 1 month ago to
18mg, he slowly improved, but after the month he started showing signs
again.
I find it such a battle with the GI to increase the dose, according to Dr
Phillips on the Marci website he should be on 30mg. I agree with you
girls, it does help but not enough? I probably need to increase it weekly
as his weight grows?
I am trying him on solids now, which he seems to like, so maybe this will
help.

InactiveHave you shared the marci-kids research with your son’s doctor? Quite a few of us have been able to convince our doctors to prescribe the higher doses by printing and faxing the information to our doctors. Laura (she’s so wise) suggests a nice cover letter thanking the doctor for all of his/her help and requesting to please let you try the higher dose.
Maybe that would sway your son’s doc.
