Hi there,
I have surfed this forum for months and I found it very helpful. Now I want to give something back…. My dd refluxer slept through the night two nights running. She is 12 mos. I never thought it would happen. I am liberated!!!! In one week, we went from bf/rock to sleep for short day naps and a night time circus (waking 2/3 times before 12, running up and downstairs to her to lift/burp or bf, sharing our bed from 12ish with 3/4 wakes to bf….) to 0 waking and in her cot all night long!!!!!!!!!!!!!. And get this, from napping 40-60mins to napping 3hrs a day!!!!
I have all the books and read all the websites and was no better off…. Somebody somewhere reccomended the book ‘Good Night, Sleep Tight’ by kim west (her intro says she had a refluxer herself). She does this sleep shuffle. You dont need to buy the book… Its simple. Get baby drowsy. Put baby in cot. Sit beside baby until they fall asleep. You move your chair (hence shuffle) out nearer the door every 3 nights. We havent got out the door yet … but it is serious progress!!!!! I spend 3 mins wind down, put her in cot (20 sec cry), sit in chair and she goes to sleep in less than 5 mins!!!!!!!! Apparently by next week, I will be able to leave her in her room alone to fall asleep!
Pu/PD didnt work (worked a dream with my first dd). CIO failed twice. I was at my wits end and had given up hoping it would disappear by itself. I also felt my dd was pain free but feeding to sleep and night feeding was causing reflux to flare (burping and discomfort). But I felt that she needed to learn to go to sleep by herself. And I can now confidently say, that waking 45 min after falling asleep screaming, was more about sleep than reflux. She needed to learn how to get to sleep, so badly.
I wanted you all to know there is hope and there is an end to the night waking. And CIO is not the only route left to reflux babies whose parents are distraught and exhausted. (Let me know if I can be of any more help ….) Please do give it a try if you feel your baby has learned bad sleep habits from reflux and is now pain free …. you and your baby need sleep!
Fingers and toes crossed…..
Lavina
p.s Although life is never perfect. My first dd has taken to waking alot at night in her place…. typical!!!!!

We pray that it will be one day, and then I’ll certainly give it a go. Hopefully now you can get your first one to sleep and then AAAHHHHH- glorious sleep!!!!!!!

June 17, 2006 at 5:18 pm #9995AnonymousInactiveMany, many, many thanks Kristen. My home is transformed, especially after 8pm. We are much happier for it. Me especially.
All going well still… I hold my breath…. she slept through 4 nights in a row. Settles herself to sleep when she wakes at night. I think we have turned a big corner. I am pinching myself!!
Thanks so so much!!!!!!
Lavina
