InactiveHey all,
So Kate I think is working hard on some teeth(I can’t see anything yet but I know they’re coming!!!
)but she sucks on her little fingers so hard sometimes that a lot of the time she gags or makes herself spit-up.
This stinks!! Like this poor baby doesn’t spit-up enough as it is, she makes herself spit up even more! Is this normal or developmental for babies to do this? Is she too young if I say ” no,no”? I was thinking so…..Has anybody else’s babies done this? It drives me nuts!!
Thanks!July 30, 2007 at 6:52 pm #40184Anonymous
Inactivesomeone else posted about this very thing not too long ago. i really think that it is not anything to worry about. my oldest daughter had such long, thin fingers that she would sometimes gag herself when she sucked on them, but i can’t remember if she ever actually made herself spit up. she spit up massive amounts, normally—but she was roly-poly and very happy—obviously she did not have an ACID reflux problem.
i don’t think that this is anything to worry about—and i agree with you about her being a little too young to tell “no-no”. even if she was old enough to say that too i’m not sure the attention wouldn’t spur it on more.July 30, 2007 at 7:11 pm #40186Anonymous
InactiveCooper does that too. He hasn’t actually made himself spit up, but he does gag/choke himself rather often. He even try to stick my finger down his throat too when he is trying to suck on it. I think it is pretty normal. Cute new pic BTW.

InactiveThanks! I can’t help it! Everytime I see her ticker after like a month I think, that’s NOT what she looks like anymore!

InactiveMyles used to do that when he was teething. I think it’s pretty common. Myles had a sensitive gag reflex so it didn’t take much to trigger it in the first place and he loved to gnaw on his fingers when he was cutting a tooth so inevitably he’d end up gagging and throwing up sometimes.
I love her new picture too.

InactiveI think I was the one who posted about this before. Bryce does this EVERY time he’s teething. It’s so frustrating. He’s horrible with it. He gags himself constantly when he’s teething. Unfortunately I haven’t found any way to stop it, besides just keeping him distracted as much as possible. The only good thing about is I always know when he’s teething!

InactiveTEETHING!!! AHHHHH!!! Are we there already? Time goes by sooooo fast. The bummer about teething though is she could be TRYING to cut this tooth for the next month or so!! It makes me cringe just thinking about that tooth working it’s way out of her poor little gummies
Man, couldn’t refluxers SKIP the whole process of painful teething b/c they’ve been through so much already?

InactiveI was convinced that Owen was getting teeth as he did this from the time he could find his hands and he was constantly gagging himself. The doc at children’s hospital when we were there trying to sort out the mess said it was common with reflux babies, but I was sure it was his teeth even though Griffin never got a tooth until he was almost 11 mo old.
He never got a tooth until he was almost 9 mo old and he did it and still does it constantly. He usually has all 4 fingers in his mouth at once and consequently gags himself frequently!
I don’t remember this with my non reflux baby, so I think it might be related. I’m with you on thinking it just stinks! These poor babies just need a break!!! -
