InactiveFor those of you who are going to get the flu immunization this year… Which one do you reccommend? Alexis has had the flu shot for 2 years now and this year the flu mist is available for her. Has anyone experienced the Flu Mist, and what do you think about it? Taylor is still too young for it so she gets the good old fashion shot!
Also they are reccommending Hepatitis A vaccines now, has anyone gotten this shot for their child? I am really thinking about opt out of it since I’m not sure how they would be exposed to it since we wash eveything we eat and hands etc it is more needed for out of the country trip etc.. I guess they are reccommending it since there is a lot more people getting the Hep A without even leaving the country. But this girls are such picky eaters, I’m not really concern about it. But what is everyone else’s experience?

InactiveI took Seth for his flu shot today. He will be 3 in December. I don’t know if he was eligible for the flu mist or not but they did not offer it. Needless to say, he did not like it but I figured it was better than risking the flu later especially since he is in daycare. This is the 3rd year for him getting the shot. I got mine on Friday.
Is the flu mist just as effective? On one hand, I say why put her throught the shot if it is an option but on the other hand, it is minimal discomfort (although you would not have thought that with Seth this morning!) and since Alexis will have to get the shot maybe it is best for them to get the same thing since they will probably get them at the same time KWIM?I honestly don’t know if we have had the Hepatitis shot or not.
It seems like we have. October 10, 2007 at 3:15 pm #44060Anonymous
InactiveI’ve heard (not sure where) that the mist isn’t quite as effective, but if it’s an option, I will certainly get it for Claire. She is already freaked out enough by the doctor’s office.
And the Hep A shot is now in the regular vaccines rotation here. Ben got his at his 1 yr. check up, but I don’t remember Claire getting it when she was that age.October 10, 2007 at 4:30 pm #44066Anonymous
InactiveI have heard that the mist contains live virus where the shot does not. I would ask this question of the doctor…..
I think the shot is more effective, too, but not sure….October 12, 2007 at 8:58 pm #44168Anonymous
InactiveHailey is going in tomorrow for her flu vaccine. I asked the Ped’s office if they have preservative free flu shots again this year and they do but said she’s eligible for the flu mist which is also preservative free. The doctor makes the call on which she gets in the office. Off to do some research because I really don’t know anything about the mist. I’ll ask for some more details tomorrow.
We are definitely getting the Hep A vaccine.

InactiveJust read that the flu shot this year (fall/winter of 2007) is not recommended for children with an egg food allergy.

InactiveWe went with the flu shot. I’m just not willing to try the mist this year since it’s only just been released to the 2 – 5 year olds. Research online seemed to point to the flu mist as being more effective but who knows. It is a live virus vaccine.

InactiveWe all had the flu shot today. My good friend who also happens to be the girls nurse had the flu mist herself last week and I guess because it is a live virus she got really sick within hours of having the spray. She said she got really light headed and nauseated within an hour or so and then started vomiting later on, she felt fine all day until she got the spray. Her twins are the same age as Alexis and she said she was getting the shot for them, so I went with the shot. Crying from both of the girls but nothing else! Yeah! Thanks for all the responses!
