InactiveSo we are currently successfully eating oatmeal, peaches, pears and
peas. Bananas seem OK but she doesn’t love them and carrots caused more
constipation. Avocado caused a bad rash/welts.Started green beans yesterday morning. Today noticed a couple of what
looks like red pimples on her left cheek. Had a bit more green beans
this morning and now see a couple of spots by her mouth and a few on
her butt. She seems OK otherwise – and also seems to be teething badly
(but of course I’ve been saying that for a long time).Might this be a reaction to the green beans? If so, do we need to stop
or should we see if it settles down in a few days? Also, wouldn’t it be
strange to have a reaction to green beans and not to peas since both
are in legume family?Or could it just be a teething type rash?

InactiveTyler gets red spots like that sometimes as well. I would keep going and see if the spots get worse or if any other symptoms show up. I think it is possible to react to one food type and not another in the same family as Tyler reacts to sweet potato but not regular potato.
Its great that Marissa is tolerating so many foods. We are still struggling a bit here, between teething and colds it is a bit hard to try anything new.

InactiveWell she does seem crankier too and a bit more reswallowing – so do you
think keep going or wait a couple of weeks and try again then (and try
sweet potato next and then blueberry)? I’m leaning toward holding off
on green beans for now – she doesn’t love them anyway?April 11, 2006 at 7:06 pm #5939Anonymous
InactiveYou can always try again later on. I keep a food diary for Tyler so I know what his reactions are to foods, so when I try them again I know what I am looking for. Sweet potato sounds like a good idea, we probably need to give that another try soon too.

InactiveThanks Amber. Yea, maybe I’ll try sweet potato tomorrow morning.

InactiveI would probably stop and try something different too. Not b/c i think it is an allergic reaction but to put my mind at ease. I don’t know of any baby that likes green beans anyway!

InactiveHey – along same lines – has anyone heard of teething causing body
rashes? M has some weird red marks on her abdomen and back that look
like hives or welts but are flat and smooth and not bothering her at
all. Not sure if contact irritation or something else – she is teething
though – but I figured that would only cause rashes on face or where
drool got caught?April 12, 2006 at 7:31 pm #6046Anonymous
InactiveHi K-
The allergist at Sinai told me food allergy rashes are most often on face AND body. When it’s just on the face, it tends to be a more external reaction or teething. I don’t think it includes ecezma however. I think I’d definitely stop green beans if the body rash occured at same time as trial.
Yucky green beans anyway! SP tastes so much better.
Oh one more thing, all the doctors told me that with mspi babies the goal is really to get them eating one veg of each color and variety isn’t as important. They then will be getting a good group of nutrients. So if Marisa is already tolerating peas, you’ll be fine.

InactiveThanks for the info Tracy – how did the feeding hospital go?

InactiveOH so long a story! I will post under the other thread later today. Basically same as everyone else with a new spin. Gut problems not behavioral. They’re very concerned with water movements (he had one while eating in the office). They agreed he’ll have a hard time tolerating solids until we get some substance back in those poops.
But will detail later….

InactiveSounds good – hope they had some ideas on how to fix the poop issue. Will look for your post later.
