InactiveOK, don’t think I’m weird for this, but this morning, I mixed Henry’s probiotics in with some of my BM (I’m nursing Lucy). I just thought it wouldn’t hurt and I had just pumped. I only used about an ounce.
Well, I didn’t forsee this coming, but he LOVED it!!! He begged and begged for more. He ended up drinking about 5 ounces! Who would’ve thought! He still even cried when I wouldn’t give him anymore.
My husband suggested giving him one glass every morning. I dont’ think he’ll take just one glass is the problem. He likes it too much.
What do I do now!?!?!? I don’t have enough to supply Lucy and Henry’s 25 pounds.
I’ve been looking into supplementing him with Neocate since he can’t have dairy. BM would be so much better, but this is a little freaky to me.
OK< lay it on me. What do you all think?

InactiveLucy,
I never bf sucessfully but you are right that the BM would be better. Do you think you could keep up with pumping? I guess I can see how it would be a little freaky but not really if you bf him before… and it’s not like he will be on the boob anyway. Many people bf until the child is 2 though. I guess my only concern would be when do you stop? I mean, if he loves it so much and he can’t have dairy then he’s going to always want it/ expect it… And at some point will *you* want to stop?
Well, I don’t think I’m really adding much here but I don’t think this is a bad idea if that is what you are asking.

InactiveI say give it to him if he likes it and you can supply it! I’d do it if I was still lactating.
The only problem I can see is the supply issue. You’ll probably have to pump an awful lot to supply enough for both.

InactiveI wonder that all too, Leanne. I’m gonna try to BF as long as I can for Lucy. I know Henry never tolerated any formulas we tried. I’m on Henry’s diet for Lucy and can’t imagine she would do well on formula either.
I don’t have any goals of how long I’ll do it, but I guess that would answer the question of how long to give it to Henry as well.
I’m hoping with the herbs I’m taking to help with my supply that maybe this could work. How about this???
It is a little freaky though. BFing didn’t work for him before, yet now, that’s all he wants to drink

I’m not thinkin’ I’ll be mentioning this to too many outsiders that Henry drinks my BM. I can just imagine the responses.
I’m gonna talk to the doc about this as well, cuz’ now I have the question of how much to give him.

InactiveI think you should give it to him if you have enough bm. Lots of moms bf until the baby is 2 and some even older. Like Leanne said, its not like Henry is going to be actually nursing, so there’s nothing “freaky” about it. I pumped for 15 months for Noah, and I would have gone longer but I didnt have much supply anymore, and I was seriously worried I would have boobs down to my knees if I continued. So I say, go for it and let him have it if he wants it!

InactiveI nursed Austin til he was 2..I didn’t think there was anything weird about it.. if he likes it go with it, but I wouldn’t if it messes with your supply for lucy

InactiveI would let him have it, it’s so much better than formula. I nursed Owen until he was 14 months old and than he decided he was done. I would have nursed him even longer than that.
