GI claims Prevacid causes polyps

Anne,

I’m coming back to this a bit late as I was out of town, but wanted to encourage you to check out a second opinion. We did this when our first ped gi didn’t want to change doses, didn’t want to try Zegerid when the other drugs weren’t working and I was TERRIFIED, literally terrified of switching docs. It was the best thing we ever ever did.

I was very encouraged by women on this site to do it nad that’s what gave me the final push to go ahead and try. While in between ped gis, I was able to convince my regular ped to actually rx the dose of zegerid for the first time because of emails I printed and info I printed from Dr. Phillips. Dr. Phillips even said he’d be willing to answer my ped’s questions via his cell phone. There really are other ways of doing this. I begged my ped to help me and sat there with my black eyes from no sleep while Lucas spit up everywhere and I think he just felt so sorry for me and yet I had all this info printed out from the web…You might try going this route while trying to get in with another ped. I mean, once you’re desperate, you’ll try anything, right? I hope it goes well…

Hi Anne, Love your name!

Unfortunately, I’ve already tried printing out the info from the website for my doctor and it didn’t seem to influence him. He dismissed all the research by saying “they’re just trying to sell a product”. So, I haven’t had much luck in that area. I probably should have tried for a switch earlier, but as long as Jonathan was doing okay on his dosage, it was just easier to stay put.

I just wish Doctors would understand that as a mother, I want him off the medicine more than the doc does! But if he still needs it, then it seems like he should stay on it. Just mommy logic.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement. Our primary care provider is referring us to another ped gi in a neighboring city, hopefully we can get in soon.

I just don’t believe that…at all. We also went to see a ped GI when Aidan was 4 months old, and were told that while his dose WAS high, it was perfectly safe. I also have a hard time believing that that’s true when so many babies, not to mention adults, are on a 30 mg dose of prevacid sometimes for more than a year…and they’re just fine. I’m glad you’re going for the second opinion!!!
