InactiveWe had the same problem until we started adding a little Cherry Supreme Mylanta. It made it taste way better.
We did end up switching to the 40 mg. packs though. The volume of med. is actually less because you would mix it just like the 20 mg. with 6.5 mls of water. You would just end up with 10 mls at a 4 mg./ml solution. You would need to add extra buffer though with the Cherry Mylanta, but it helps it taste so much better.

InactiveI did have her switched to the 40 mg dose yesterday. I do compound it so it is at the 4 mg/ml strength and am adding an equal amount of the Cherry Supreme Mylanta, per the marci-kids info. I was reluctant to do this as she has multiple food protein intolerance (MFPI), and I hated to add “extras” into her system with the Mylanta. But I called the company to confirm it is all milk/soy/corn/etc free, which it apparently is… (I breastfeed her and so far, all she is tolerating in my diet is range-fed turkey, brown rice, rice milk, and obviously water. I am on the total elimination diet–TED, day 18, after previously doing the milk/soy free diet as my other kids were MSPI. I tried to add blueberries to my diet earlier in the week, and it did NOT go well for her. Back to the turkey and rice only
) Anyway… She is still quite gaggy with the med, does not like it, cries, and did spit up most of the midday dose today. Yet, she doesn’t seem to be doing the full-fledged vomiting as she had been doing with the 20 mg dose. It is still a struggle getting it all in as she tolerates only a very small (as in 0.2 ml) amount at a time. Hopefully, this will get better. Per my previous experience with my refluxing, protein-intolerant kids, this too will pass…eventually!

InactiveI’m on the TED too, and have been for about a month now. I was wondering what happened when you added blueberries to your diet? I have added some foods back but still have trouble discerning if his reaction is just reflux or if it is because he is intolerant. Could you tell me what happened with your daughter?

InactiveDespite being on the Zegerid, her reflux REALLY flared up after the blueberries. She was overall fussier, very difficult to comfort, arching, and crying while nursing, burping and also for quite a while after nursing. We had about 36-48 hrs of this, then she was better. A few days later, we did have a small green diaper, but not too mucousy.
I agree it is hard to tell if the symptoms are reflux or the protein intolerance. Wouldn’t it be nice if a red light flashed on their little heads if it was the protein intolerance, a blue one if reflux-related pain, or a green one if he/she is just having a cranky day? Life would be so much easier.
I can’t say with 100% certainty that the blueberries caused her symptoms (worsening of her reflux in this case) or if it was just her reflux itself. But it was miserable enough for all of us that I decided it was worth dropping that food. She was better after I did so, and maybe we’ll try it again later…
