InactiveOk so Marshall has been on goats milk about one week. His eczema is back just like it would be if he was on whole milk, just not as bad as he does on whole milk. So that did not work
. Now I have to decide if I am going to put him back on soy or rice milk. It was almost gone while on soy but I have heard that soy is not good for boys until the age 12. Is anyone giving soy milk to their son and if so what other vitamins, fats, calcium are you using. Any insight would be great about soy vs rice milk.June 17, 2007 at 8:10 am #37036Anonymous
Inactivehi cindy,
well i think his excema might be due to all dairy. shane cant do any dairy either. the goats wasnt too bad.. but it was making him reflux.
soo we are at the same question.. soy or rice? well shane is younger than marshall so i am going to do a mix of the both. i know soy isnt too good for boys or kids in general. BUT i dont feel like i am have much of a choice..you know? soo.. a mix of soy/rice milk.. wont give enough fats.. so i am going to do rice and soy formula.. i am going to check it out today and find one that is good enough. if i find out that the formula has the same fats as the milk..than i’ll just do the milk..but i guess i’d have to do way more of that than rice.
its confusing i know.. expecially on what to believe. but i think your son is getting closer to the age that its o.k for rice milk/soy milk mixed. @ 2 yrs old its recommended that they switch to low fat anyhow. soo even if you decide to get rid of the soy and just do the rice..i am sure thats fine. do you give ANY form of other dairy like yogurt or cheese? if so than it will be o.k to just rice. we dont do any dairy soo that is why i am hesitant. and if you decide to do just rice milk than you have to make sure he gets his other fats from other foods. and i wouldnt worry about vitamins and calcium because you can get the enriched kind (for calcuim and vit. D and A)and give him a multi vitamin if he doesnt eat other good sources of fruits/veggies.

I never thought about the soy and rice formula. Good idea. I wish I could give him some of the regular cheese and yogurt. That also will make his eczema flare up big time. I do not mind that he has the eczema, it is just when it starts to bother him and itch him is when I have the problem and I know that dairy is the cause so I will have to resort to the soy milk/rice milk. He actually loved the taste of the soy I was just afraid of him not getting all the fats and having to much of it to drink with all that is said about the estrogen in the soy milk for boys? Or something in to that nature. I have not had enough time to do major research on this. I guess I may need to. It is always something. One good thing is that he eats everything in sight so I think he would be okay on maybe a mixture of the rice/soy milk. Thanks again for the help.

Inactiveyeah, soy contains hormones which mimic estrogen-thus is one of the reasons for so many children going through puberty way too early.
look for soy thats GMO free too.
