Inactivei really really need the help in here
i know many of you guys don’t think treating a reflux baby with Reglan is a good idea… by now i think the same way any ways my baby was doing better ( well he still spits up alot) no pain, and good feedings; he was on Zantac fist but since he outgrew the dosis the dr. changed him to reglan last visit he prescribed a higher dosis, anyways since my little one wasn’t in pain the dr. is just treating his “spiting up” but since a few days he is waking up screaming and with a lot of gas just like when he wasn’t diagnosed with the reflux, he seems like he has heartburn all the time his appetite has change now he just seems to want to at during the night when he is half a sleep the doc told me he was just cutting some teeth but no sign of a tooth i dont think that gulping and swswallowing are sings of cutting teeth. i already made an appointment with his dr. for tomorrow morning. i am tinking on asking the doctor to put him back on zantac what do you all think??
please help!!!!

InactiveIf the zantac was working, I say go for it. I am sure that you have read though that for a lot of babies, it just doesn’t do the trick. But definitely stick with the zantac if it helped him!! If he wasn’t completely happy (well, as happy as a baby can be
), try researching http://www.marci-kids.com and looking at the PPI section and use the calculator for his weight and age. Be as prepared as possible when you go into the appt tomorrow if you are suspecting the doc will blow you off. Be as educated as possible on reflux and show your stuff when you go in there and get the doc to listen to your concerns. I wish I had done that the first 3 doctors we took Addy too!May 22, 2007 at 6:21 pm #34153Anonymous
InactiveReglan probably won’t help much with the pain of reflux. It’s meant mostly for DGE (delayed gastric emptying) and reducing spitting up. I’d try to get him back on Zantac, but a higher dose since you said he outgrew his previous dose, or ask for a PPI medication like Prevacid or Zegerid. These meds will reduce or stop acid production and stop the heartburn pain. Once his pain is controlled his appetite will probably improve, and he will be able to sleep better.

InactiveTaylor was on Zantac and Reglan at the same time. She had DGE and reflux so the medications helped with both. Wondering if your MD would be willing to let you restart Zantac and continue the Reglan.

Inactivemy baby doesnot show any side efects with the reglan but i am still alittle concerned about that too but i think that if i bring that up to the doctor he will said that is no reason to stop the reglan even though it is not helping with the heartburn and the discomfort, any suggestion???????

Inactivei would definitely ask for a PPI.

InactiveAlex was on reglan and zantac at the same time. He probably seemed better for a while, but now is having problems because his esophagus is started to get damaged again. If zantac worked for him, I’d ask to be put back on it before I’d push for a PPI. If your doctor is more comfortable with zantac why fight a battle that you may not have to fight?

InactiveGabbs, I agree with Kim, I would ask the Dr to retry the Zantac (at an increased dose due to his weight gain) as a first step. If you don’t see any relief then you could look at other options. It might be that you have to go down the PPI track at some point, but maybe not. Good luck with your Dr.

Inactivehe has never been tested to see if he is allergic to milk or something he was doing so good with his formula although i dont think there is a problem with that he has alot of gas these days, i can hear something coming up and then going back it is so weird and i feel so bad for him he started to wake up often and i dont know if this going backwards is because he is teething or he should be given another medicine…
P.S. being honest i dont know much about this reflux thing
and my baby was diagnosed like 4 moths ago, but this board has so much good info. May 23, 2007 at 4:23 am #34192Anonymous
InactiveIf you still have some Zantac, I would retry it (and some mylanta if you need it). If it doesn’t help you could then ask the Dr for a PPI. Unfortunately most of this is trial and error.
