groaning

my daughter has started this weird thing where she is groaning all the time…she will be playing with a magazine or just playing around and all the sudden she starts it. It is a real throaty sound. But the odd thing is, she doesn’t really seem to be in pain from it. If you call her name while she is doing it, she will stop and look up and smile. Do you think she is just exploring her voice. She used to make a similar noise to this when she would poop, but now she has started doing it more often.

Also, she has started this thing that when she is breastfeeding she pulls away and arches her back, but doesn’t seem in any type of pain from it, sometimes she just starts to watch TV (yes, I watch TV while I breastfeed her because it relaxes me. Do you think it is reflux or just being a baby. Like i said, sometimes it seems like she is just arching her back so that she can see the TV…she never cries when she does this.

last thing, Brianna constantly pulls her legs up to her chest when you are trying to put her down for a nap, and she will even pull them upin her sleep…but she doesn’t seem gassy…she very rarely passes any. Could she just be comfortable that way?

These might be silly questions, but it is alway so reassuring to hear advice/experience from other monthers. 🙂

I’d say that if she’s sleeping well and eating well she’s probably fine.

As for the groaning…she may be exploring the sound of her voice.

I used to nurse and bottle feed in my bed with the tv on, (still do). I found it relaxing, too. Myles still takes a night time bottle and he often stops drinking and strains to see the tv. Many older babies begin to lose intrest in long term nursing sessions…they get more active and curious and are afraid they are going to miss out on something. Maybe try nursing her without the tv on and see if it makes a diffrence. I used to have to turn the tv off in order for Myles to relax…..but now he’s really into his bedtime bottle so he’s ok with it on.

Maybe she likes to sleep in a fetal position because it’s comfy for her. Myles often draws his legs up and sticks his little rear up in the air when he sleeps. It’s so cute.

I guess you just have to use your mommy instincts…..sounds to me like she’s fine, just being a baby. My guess is that if anything is bothering her you’ll know pretty soon.

Sometimes I think Abby is part bear or dog for the amount of groaning/growling she does. It is the weirdest thing but when you respond, she smiles so big and does it even more. The arching thing sounds just like her as well – it’s almost like she likes to be upside down over my arm – she giggles and wants to do it more. Kids are so weird sometimes

I would say that if she isn’t in pain, I wouldn’t worry too much.

I agree with the others. Bryce does the same arching thing – just trying to see what’s going on I think.

That is what my gut was telling me, but it is good to hear that others have been through the same thing. 🙂
