Gross Poop Question – Sorry TMI?

Christian has been “tubey use” free since last Wednesday. Most of his poop has been new to us – NUGGETS. He had never had a solid poop in his life.

Tonights diaper was literally liquid, pea green and I saw lots of stringy mucous in it. What could be causing this?

All the allergy testing came back normal (milk/soy/eggs and tons of other things too). He has been eating nothing different than his normal diet, just no night feeds for a week.

A typical day consists of:

Breakfast bar, Millk

Ice Pops – far too many – but it is hydration

Grilled Cheese sandwich and Apple sauce

Pretzels, or snack crackers

Macaroni and cheese, Hot dog w/bun

Most days include the above items. His daycare menu hasn’t changed.

We did just change off of prevacid and went to omeprazole 2 days ago. Could this have something to do with it?

Could this just be the start of an illness? All new to me and I knew you gals could help.

Hmmmmm, green and mucous always are classic intolerance signs but if his food hasn’t changed….I don’t know! If it’s any consolation, Kate has sporatic green sometimes mucousy diapers every once in a blue moon and I think it’s just a fluke thing…then again she’s a lot younger so I’m sure her digestive system is a lot more immature…. I’m so sorry I’m no help!! I hope someone else has an idea and you figure it out though!

I’m sure it’s possible that it’s the omeprazole. Diarrhea or consitpation are the most common side effects of most medications. Usually the body adapts with time.

Of course it could a virus. Usually the tell tale sign of a virus is horrific stench. If there’s no foul odor then I’d be less inclined to think virus, though it’s probably still possible.

I’m not sure about the mucous, but in the absence of a virus or other causes, green can sometimes indicate a high sugar intake. Also in some kids too much sugar can cause loose stools. So if he’s eating a whole lot of ice pops, I think that’s a possible cause.

I hope you get it figured out soon.
