InactiveHappy birthday!! I responded to your post about MSPI…. SWITCH PROVIDERS. The benefit is tremendous from having the right therapists….

InactiveThanks everyone! That is so very sweet and touching. I’m exhausted-long day but a glorious one. He such a smiley little guy. We have the big party on Sat and I’ll post pictures after!!
As for his update-I’ll post a detailed one later tomorrow(after a nice long sleep:). But overview in general is perfect. He’s walking, talking, happy, and EATING (a ton-mostly table foods by hand too!). Thais-seeing Dr. M in two weeks to discuss weaning off meds as we think (knock wood)reflux is a thing of the past. How is Matthew btw??? Glad to hear EI is helping-great news!
So full details to come…

InactiveMatthew is doing really well (after a bad spell) but he is as happy as can be!! Thanks for asking. Glad to hear all is well… make the call. Yes therapies are amazing and he sees so many therapists that he is getting used ot being thrown around and asked to work and he loves it.

InactiveOK-Finally Ian’s update! Have some spare time this morning so here goes-
He’s so super adorable. As I said he’s talking (meaning a few words-and babbling). He says Mama, cat, Nana, Hi, uh-oh, and he’ll copy the occasional word. Receptive language has come far as well-so we’re thrilled. Understands a lot. Walking for over a month now-crazy! THAT’s the thing he chooses to focus on. He’s pretty good too-we have fancy walking shoes, holds my hand, and off we go on nyc streets. Only trouble is now comes the running-so we bump into alot in the apt. Eating is another surprise last couple of months-tolerating (seemingly) everything but milk/dairy (which is a shame because he loved cheese when we tried it). Thankfully we’ve been lucky with trying new things and texture but he likes to self feed so I’m forced to be really creative. For example, last night I saw him eat-2 chicken nuggets, 4 baby carrots, 1 slice of toast with soy butter, and 3/4 of an avocado. He’s even getting a pot belly!! NEVER EVER thought I’d see this day. He’s still drinking 3-8 oz bottles of Elecare and although ped wants him to decrease and eventually go off formula-I’m seeing a toddler nutritionist next week about it-I just don’t know where he’s going to get his calcium from. He doesn’t seem to love soy milk. Also, (again never thought I’d see this), he sucks those bottles down and is very eager for them. So strange! But then again, he is really active…Overall Ian’s a really sweet, happy, funny, dancing (loves it), little guy and I’m so enjoying him. OH-AND, he has a molar and is getting another one AND he still doesn’t have one of his front teeth! Lastly, knock wood, we think reflux may be gone and we’re slowly weaning meds.
There are only two things right now causing concern (1 small, 1 big). Big one – daycare. He’s in it 3 days a week and it’s been a month now. He hates it. Screams every time when we even approach the building on the street and when I pick him up. And he’s super clingy with me right now (which I secretly find adorable) but when he wakes up recently at 5am in the morning wanting to play with me it isn’t so cute. I do think it’s good with the other kids-7 total all around 12-18 months (Ian’s the youngest) and I know the providers care but it does affect everything at home-sleep, etc. Oh well. My small concern is ironically enough from this morning. He didn’t poop yesterday so I gave him MoM last night and he went this morning. It was hard and some chunks(not coffee grounds more log formation-SO sorry tmi) looked black (although dh said dark dark green) so (sorry-this is gross) I squished it and inside was a dark pea green color. So I don’t think it’s blood-and he has no other symptoms of allergy. HOWEVER, he did have alot of soy -more then usual-over last two days. Does soy constipate? Or does constipation cause this kind of poop? I’m going to just monitor next few days and maybe keep him on MoM for next couple.
Early intervention update is that I really don’t think Ian needs Speech or feeding therapy anymore. He’s eating finger food’s great and we’re trying to use a spoon. He’s also finally starting to understand straw cups. I don’t really credit the therapy with the improvement because it started to turn prior to beginning. Occupational therapy is still needed because fine motor is still delayed-won’t clap, doesn’t grasp concept of needed two hands to do certain things-like hold bottle or cup ( and gets VERY upset if you try to show him), but he can point and he does put hold some toys with both hands. Our OT has not made any real progress there and she’s really nice but I think just too young and inexperienced. I’m going to give it a couple more weeks and I then may change therapists.
So there you have it! Sorry I’ve been MIA but he has me busy as does work. I know I’ve missed a couple of birthdays and I’m so sorry! But I’m catching up and I’m so happy to hear all the wonderful updates and the kids from our little reflux generation seem to be doing great. Encouraging to maybe have another….hee!

InactiveSounds like Ian is doing GREAT. I can’t believe how much he’s eating and
drinking – wow! And yes, soy can be constipating – so I wouldn’t be
concerned – maybe give him the MoM and extra water to keep him moving?

InactiveThanks Karen. So have you heard of it getting that blackish color? Just from constipation?

InactiveGlad to hear Ian is doing so well.
WOW! He eats so well! And running already! Please post some pics so we can all see how cute he is!
When Myles gets backed up his poop gets very dark. I think it’s just from being “old” but I’m not a poop expert by any means. I’m glad I’m not the only mom out there who has on ocassion squished her baby’s poop!

Sorry to hear daycare isn’t going as well as you’d like. Maybe he just needs a little more time to adapt.
Good luck and thanks for the update.
