InactiveI babysat for a 15 month old today and I’d actually forgotten what it was like to see a toddler eat and drink normally. It just made me realize how “abnormal” Noah really is with his eating and drinking.
I know there are some of you on here who have a little one who dislikes their bottles. My ds is one of those too. However, he also doesnt like the sippy or regular cup or basically anything that has liquid in it. He doesnt like to drink at all. Besides formula and breast milk, I’ve given him juice, whole milk, pediasure, chocolate milk, vanilla and banana flavored milk, and he still has very little interest in drinking. I’m just curious if anyone else has a toddler that doesnt like to drink anything, rather it comes from a bottle, sippy, straw cup, etc.?

InactiveLisa ~ Have you tried liquids at a different temperature other than cold? Hailey was really weird at first and wouldn’t drink anything really cold or really warm. It had to be basically lukewarm. When we first started giving juice, she wouldn’t drink it cold either. I used to give it room temperature and then she really took to it. Now she drinks her milk or juice cold but for quite a long time we got everything to room temperature or she wouldn’t drink it. You’ve probably tried it but I just thought I’d throw that out there.

InactiveHailey likes to drink dirty soapy bathwater, and likes to eat dustbunnies and rotten food tidbits that she finds on the floor- BUT she doesn’t like food that’s offered to her. Other than that, we’re in the same boat!
She will take soy milk or apple juice or water from a sippy- but small amounts and not regularly. More often than not she takes one or two sips then makes a face and chucks it on the floor. I try not to remind myself about what a normal child’s eating and drinking is like… it just makes me feel depressed about things. Hopefully one day a switch will go off for our kids that will make them want to eat and drink like other kids. s&h’s mum2006-5-30 21:15:5May 30, 2006 at 11:41 pm #8826Anonymous
InactiveLOL….Noah likes to suck the bathwater out of his washcloth and will also put anything he finds on the floor into his mouth. I’ve contemplated leaving bits of food on the floor for him to find and eat!
I always wondered if the flavor of his formula was causing some of his issues. But since I have given him lots of other flavors and he is still refusing, I’m at a loss. I just cant figure out how a child wouldnt be thirsty or wouldnt like the flavor of juice or chocolate milk, etc. I have tried different temperatures and even different thicknesses, and I’ve had pretty much the same reaction. I’m still baffled by this whole feeding and drinking issue. Will it ever end??????

InactiveMY older son (no reflux) didn’t really like to drink anything that much..I used to make homemade popsicles for him with juice and water, and “smoothie” pops with formula and fruit/fruit juice, to try to get more fluids in him. He would drink an ok amount from a cup most days..he’s 6 now and to this day I have to remind him to drink whatever I have given him with his meal and make sure during the summer I remind him to drink water b/c he never seems thirsty. I think when he was Noah’s age I would put chunks of the popsicles I made in the baby safe teether thing so he wouldn’t bite a huge hunk off.
