InactiveTrace has been sick yesterday and today, and not eating. i think he ate like 8oz total yesterday and 2 oz today! he wont take water or pedialyte and his wet dipaers have def. decreased.
what do i do?November 19, 2006 at 6:29 pm #18429Anonymous
InactiveYou might try taking a syringe and dripping formula into his mouth. I had to do this with Parker once when he was a baby. He was so sick that he wouldn’t nurse at all. I think he had a sore throat. I was so worried, so I expressed some milk and just fed it to him with a syringe. He definitely didn’t get as much as he normally would, but it kept him hydrated. It happened to be over a weekend, so I couldn’t take him in to the doctor, but I called the doctor on-call and she said to check the “soft spot” (fontanel) on his head. If it’s not sunken in, he’s okay. If it is, he’s dehydrated.
I would just do the best you can at getting as much fluids into him as you can. If he’s not doing any better tomorrow, you might want to take him in to the doc.
I’m so sorry he’s so sick! I know how scary it can be when your baby’s sick. You’re doing a great job though, hang in there! Good luck.

InactiveI agree… can you syringe him water or pedialyte as if it’s a medication? That way he’ll be getting a few sips here and there. If he’s still not eating anything tomorrow I would also take him in to the ped to assess hydration. Hailey also isn’t taking anything in/keeping anything down and it’s awful, so I know how you feel. When we’ve been really desperate we’ve put spoons and cups in the bathtub and let her drink bathwater… gross I know, but usually works. Hope it passes soon.

InactiveI’d take him back to the doctor.

InactivePoor little guy.

I wonder if he picked up some lousy virus while at the doctor’s office for his check up. That’s what always seems to happen over here. You bring them in for a well baby check up and two days later they’re sick and miserable.
The only suggestion I have is to maybe see if he’ll take some fluid from a spoon (Myles often would take milk from a spoon even when he’d take nothing from a bottle), or try the syringe like the others suggested. If he’s not better tomorrow I’d take him back to the doctor, or at least call.
I hope he feels better soon. It’s so scary when they are so little and sick and not eating or drinking anything.

Inactivesee the thing is this is EXACTLY how i reacted to the flu shot the one and only time i got it.
the doctor scared me into getting if for him, but i should have known better because i have done some research. i dont usuallly cave like that, but SO was there and i think that affected it.
anyway thanks for the suggestions. i got him to drink 3 oz of formula a little while ago, which is a big improvement.November 19, 2006 at 10:11 pm #18466Anonymous

I’m glad to hear you got him to take some formula! Sounds like things are starting to look up. Hopefully in a couple of days he will be back to himself. By the way, I love Trace’s new pic. He is sooooo cute!

InactiveI hope he continues to improve.

It really is stressful being at the doctor and having them push you to vaccinate against this, that and the other thing. I hate it with a passion and I dread every shot and I worry myself sick about whether my child will be one who will have a reaction, but then these diseases are pretty scary too, so who knows?
