I was wanting to know if any of you have had issues with hearing in your reflux babies. At times I think that she hears and there are other times that I am conserned. She is startled by loud noises and at times will turn her head towards the sound. When she does not turn her head it’s like she is concentratin on something, espeacialy if sissy is in the room. Ashlynn is not a happy baby, i can get her to laugh and smile ,but most of the time she is just sitting there abosrbing everything around her. I try and not compare her to my 2 year old , but its hard because Danika is a very smart 2 year old. We are going to her ped tommorrow to talk about Ashlynn and then a Ent Dec 3 to check for hearing.
So if any of you had this problem can you give some advise..ThanksAshlynn 6-3-07 refluxer since birht very poor sleeperDanika 11-3-05 Happy go lucky 2 year oldNovember 13, 2007 at 12:45 pm #45409AnonymousInactiveYes, we had this problem. I suspected that Hailey had fluid in her ears because of the severity of her reflux and frequent episodes of reflux out of her nose. Her ped didn’t see any fluid in her ears when he looked, so we never did anything about it. At her 1 year appointment I was concerned about delayed speech. Our ped suggested a hearing test which showed severe hearing loss and a lot of fluid in her ears and flat readings. We saw an ENT shortly after, and he also found a lot of fluid in her ears. During the exam, he also noted her ears to be infected. She had had 5 ear infections in 6 months which he thought was a lot, so he scheduled her for ear tube surgery. When I brought her home after the surgery, she slept for a bit, and when she woke up, I called upstairs “I’m coming”… to which she mimicked “I comee”, as if she’d never heard me clearly before. A few weeks later, her speech took off, she started to suck from a bottle more willingly and her eating improved slightly as well. I often wonder if this is a co-incidence or not.
There have been many moms on this site who have refluxers that have needed ear tubes, some due to frequent ear infections, others due to persistent fluid in the ears. Ear infections and ear fluid are fairly common as a result of reflux.Good luck sorting things out.s&h’s mum2007-11-13 12:46:02

Last night she was up every hour to two hours crying and mommy was up with has to work 12′ hours day at work(I am cat scan technologist). So is it reflux or ears? could be both. Did you notice this with Hailey right away? Everyone says your second does not develop has quick, but I am worried about Ash. Thanks

The tubes i think helped a ton with his speech, but for us it is hard to tell as he was having therapies at the same time.
