Hi all! I’m new to the GERD family. I am a foster parent and received a placement for a 3 month old baby girl who was Failure to Thrive. She has had a pyloric stenosis surgery and has horrible reflux along with delayed gastric emptying and standifers syndrome. We have been hospitalized 3 times in 30 days with rotavirus and gastritis. Currently we were on bethanechol, prevacid 7.5 mg solutabs. Since starting the prevacid she has been super fussy and hasn’t slept. Her pedi took her off of the bethanachol thinking that it could be the cause of her fussiness. I am leaning more toward thinking it is the prevacid. She spits up constantly except most nights if she sleeps. We are on nutramigen and rice cereal…. I’ve only had her for 2 months and at my wits end. We can’t get into a GI until June… and because she is a foster child I can’t just try different meds or otc items. Has anyone had these similar issues?
Being at your wits end….. yes, very familiar feeling! I think that all GERD moms surely must feel that way at some point if not all the time. 🙁 I’m sorry your little girl is struggling so much. (((HUGS))) to you.
I understand what you’re saying on how you can’t just try any kind of meds or OTC stuff but who is it that has to approve of what you give your children? The doctor or social services? Sorry I’m so ignorant.
But anyway, something you might want to check into and ask ?? if it’s ok to give, would be a supplement of probiotics and/or digestive enzymes. These have helped my children a lot with their digestive problems. They aren’t a cure all but they have made a big difference.
