InactiveWell we got our prescription for Zegerid filled yesterday and it wasn’t until after my husband picked it up and we made up the solution that I remembered something I read here on this site. Basically my Doctor prescribed the 40mg packets but we’re only supposed to give 20mg per day …he prescribed 15 packets which means he thinks you can use one packet for 2 days which I know is wrong because of the amount of buffer. Anyway I know it was an honest mistake on his part because he used the Marci-kids site to figure out how much water I should add etc. but now we are stuck with these 40mg packets. Ava has rebounded like I’ve never seen, her Sandifer’s symptoms are back and she is screaming in miserable pain (I’m still giving her the Axid) and on top of it all SHE WILL NOT TAKE THE ZEGERID…we wasted so much trying to get her to take it last night and we are at a total loss…does anyone have any advice?!?! We tried giving it in a syringe, a small bottle of formula, a med paci, and then her night time bottle which she basically refused for an hour and then drank a few ounces before she fell asleep!!! I saw in previous post that Dr. Phillips said you could add a certain amount of Mylanta to provide enough buffer so the Zegerid would be protected…does anyone know anything else about that? I’m at a total loss for what to do right now and my poor baby girl is miserable!
PLEASE HELP! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Switching from 15mgs Prevacid once a day (Prevacid caused her stomach cramps and bad diarrhea) to 20mgs Zegerid per day (which I know is low but at least it’s a starting point)June 16, 2006 at 10:34 am #9890Anonymous
InactiveI have no experience with zegerid, but I have read in other post that people have been able to email Dr. Phillips directly and get advice. You could look for email info on the Marci kids site. Alos Joel is often responing to posts here and also has a direct email. I am sure someone will jump in with the contact info. you need.
I am so sorry you are having such a hard time after how hard you had to work to get her the meds. I hope you find the answers you need and things get better soon.

InactiveDr. Phillips direct email is phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu. Joel’s direct phone line is 573-884-0672. He has always said it was OK for me to call there so I am sure he won’t mind. They will have the answers you need.

InactiveAimee,
I think that Dr Phillips may be able to answer your questions a bit better and more thoroughly than me, so I’m going to let him field it. If he does not get back to you soon, email me again and I will take a crack at it.

InactiveI think it would be a great idea for anyone who has had such tremendous success with all of the help Joel and Dr. Phillips provides to us, to write letters to the President of the University of Missouri telling them how valuable they and their information has been to us. I am sure they realize what a tremendous asset they are to the Univeristy but I think it would mean a lot coming from those of us who have benefitted from their help. Pictures of our happy little ones who have been helped would really put a personal touch on the letter.
Just a thought
