Inactivewe saw the GI ped last week and he took ds off of his old meds (zantac and prevacid) because we thought they weren’t working. come to find out we were giving him the prevacid wrong! he was getting a 15mg solutab 2x/day and not always on an empty tummy. but, the GI put him on Omeprozale only 1.2mg 2x/day (20mg solution) and according to MARCI he should be getting MUCH more than that. how do i tell this to the GI? ds is just miserable and it’s breaking my heart. i still have all his zantax and prevacid. what do i do while i wait for the GI to call me back?

Inactivei really cant stand that these people are considered ped gi’s yet they dont even mention how to properly give the medications! what a joke!
first of all, if you got a compound of prilosec, i can pretty much gaurantee that its being made wrong. it needs to be made with 16.8% sodium bicarb and NO flavorings. also needs to be made every 14 days. if these things are not done, the compound will not be stable.
this is how to properly prepare a compound. if you are going to stick with it you should show this to the pharmacy:

how many mg/ml is the solution? its usually 2-4 mg/ml.
did you mean 1.2 ML per day?
it sounds like you had a good dose of prevacid to being with. i would stick with that. compounds have way too many stability issues and that dose seems low.
u have to give prevacid 30-60 min before a meal. compounds dont need to be timed.

InactiveI’d ask to go back on the Prevacid. At least he was giving you a good dose of that. Tell him you were not giving it properly and you’d like to try it again.
The compound is not being made properly (it’s flavored) so it will not work, and the is so low. Maybe you could just tell him that the baby won’t take the omeprazole. Or that it costs too much. Or make up some excuse why you want to try the solutabs again.
How much Prevacid do you have left?Maybe try it for two weeks and then call him and tell him you went back to Prevacid for whatever reason (be creative
) and that it’s working so please give us a new script or refills. Just be sure to give it on an empty stomach and follow it up 30 minutes later with a feeding. Also I’d give Zantac mid-day (if you’re doing two doses or Prevacid), and at night if he needs it for two weeks. Just be sure the Prevacid and Zantac are spaced 4 hours apart.
Good luck and keep us posted.

InactiveI’d also go back to the prevacid and see if giving it properly for two weeks makes a difference. 30mg has been a magic number for a lot of kiddos, so hopefully it will help your son as well. Also, you need to make sure that you’re spacing the zantac and the prevacid (solutab), like Christine mentioned. You also need to space out the prevacid and mylanta, if you give that.
