Well, I thought things were going well, but I’ve hit a frustrating point with Owen.
I tried reducing his meds at 13 mo, he will be 15 mo Jan 6. So that didn’t work, poor sleep, fussy, etc, went back on meds and immediately fine again. I’m okay with staying on the meds despite everyone acting like I need to wean him (family), but the puking is driving me to gag myself!!So, my biggest thing now is he is still puking like a machine sometimes. Of course not daily, but he’s eating people food now and so I have quite the mess to clean up!!It’s usually at night and today, it just happened at lunch. The senario goes, cough, cough, cough, wait a little and if he stops coughing great, but if he doesn’t, I know he will puke. Sometimes I get into his room and I know it’s about to happen so I hold him over the toilet, other times it’s just all over his bed. There have been a couple of instances where he slept all night in his puke and I never even heard him whine or cough. Which of course makes me feel horrible……Is this normal to puke after a year old? I doesn’t seem to happen as much at meal times. He also has a horrible gag reflex and if I give him something to eat with any texture that he doesn’t like, I will get punished by him puking!!My doc seems unphased by this, I guess if it’s something that just happens with refluxers I will live with it. Do your kids still puke??He was just in his crib puking about a hour ago and I’m gagging trying to get his shirt off, and Griffin comes in and is like “oh mom, what a gross mess, what happened here?”Thanks for listening. I know we are so far past the worst of this, but I just would like to have it OVER!December 31, 2007 at 9:03 pm #46832AnonymousInactiveColton didn’t eat much solids until he was about 18 months. He too would cough until he puked. I think its something that will go away in time.
January 1, 2008 at 9:30 am #46836AnonymousInactiveI’m going to go with Kathleen. I think it is something he will have to outgrow. I’m sure that’s not what you want to hear…From what I understand there are medicines to help with spitting up but they are related to DGE. Has he ever been tested for that?
Sarah stopped spitting up around 9-10 months old (at least that’s when I remember not having to match bibs to her outfits everyday!). She didn’t actually outgrow her reflux until 18 months old though.
I sure hope things get easier for you soon. I almost gagged reading your post! YUCKY!
January 1, 2008 at 5:59 pm #46851AnonymousInactiveThis is kind of bad timing for me to answer this post because for the past week Bryce hasn’t thrown up at all (hoping I don’t jinx everything by saying that!). But until now Bryce has always thrown up at least once a day. He just turned 2. I too am hoping that the puking part of it will at least end.
January 2, 2008 at 3:46 pm #46875AnonymousInactiveBrodie used to be the same way with the gagging and coughing. I was just talking about Xmas eve 2005, he was 18 months and eating stuffed shells, well he got a piece of ricotta stuck started coughing and I knew what was coming next. So I got up and started running him to the kitchen sink, and he barfed! He could throw up just from coughing too hard. I used to panic if we were somewhere and he started coughing, because it almost always ended up in him puking! Sometimes even laughing too hard for a period of time would cause throw up. I think it will pass for Owen in time. I know it is awful and I sympathize with you, it is so sad and such a mess to clean. Brodie stopped this quite a while ago, he doesnt even puke from crying anymore, which I thougt would neverstop! Hang in there
January 3, 2008 at 1:44 pm #46893AnonymousInactiveI am sorry Erica. Seth still has reflux but he has always had more of the silent kind. Hoping like the others said, it will eventually pass.
January 3, 2008 at 3:31 pm #46898AnonymousInactiveWell, it’s happened twice more this week. He has the green snotty nose and a good cough to go along with it. This of course will be ongoing until it warms up a bit here and we live in NE so it will be awhile! I think the cold definately makes things worse b/c we have good weeks and then we have these weeks!
It was like 14 degrees here yesterday. Can you say take me away to somewhere warm!!!!!I know what you all are saying about going out with a puker! We went out to a pizza place last night and I was just like get me home before he pukes. And we were in the door 5 minutes and it happened. All over my stove and floor! Amazingly enough, we’ve never had a major event on the carpet in all of 15 months of his life!! One thing I should be happy about!!!Thanks for the support! -
