My 16 pound, 4 month old has been on Prevacid Solutabs for a few months. Lately we’ve been giving him his whole 15 mg dose at night because anything less, and he wakes up at 4:00. Our pediatric gastroenterologist isn’t comfortable with us giving the whole dose at night. She wants us to try giving 3/4 tab at night (~10 mg) and 1/2 tab mid-morning or noon. She said we may need to go to 3 times a day but wants to try this first.
And actually (I confess) for the last 3 days I’ve been giving my son an extra 1/4 of a Solutab at night because he had stopped sleeping through the night and with the extra 1/4 of a tab, he’s doing MUCH better.
So my question is this: how do I go from giving 1 1/4 solutab at night (18 3/4 mg) to only 3/4 tab (11 mg)? Isn’t my baby going to have a huge flair up of symptoms?
Originally we were supposed to be giving 1/2 tab twice a day but at that dose, my baby’s nights were terrible. And since he was OK during the day, we ended up doing the whole dose at night (after experimenting with smaller amounts).
I appreciate any suggestions! My doctor was running 1 1/2 hours late and I had to run to an appointment and my husband failed to ask this question!
