InactiveWell, we’re currently dairy, soy, gluten, corn and fructose free. I’m nursing so I’m on the diet as well. My 19 mth old is much happier on this diet, but I’ve always thought there was something I was missing. What else could it be for goodness sake???
Well, today, I had an epiphony. I have symptoms of yeast in my breast tissue- painful nursing, pumping and pain radiating into my arm. Lucy and Henry both have severe diaper rashes. It looks like the pictures of a thrush baby’s bottom.
If Henry and I go onto avoid yeast in our diet, it eliminates carbs. it would eliminate rice and potatoes. What in the world could poor Henry eat???
I’m thinking of adding other things in and lowering the sugar/carb content. Any suggestions? Maybe add back soy. Don’t know that would help much. We have to stay away from gluten for sure. and dairy.

InactiveAmy,
I’m not sure on this, but could you all have a yeast infection without actually being allergic to yeast??Two of my sons have had a yeast-infection diaper rash before, and the doc just had me treat it with OTC monistat cream. It went away, and they have each been fine since. I’ve also had thrush from nursing a few times, but I’m not allergic to yeast.
Anyway, just a thought. Good luck finding out what the problem is.

InactiveAll three of my babies have had ocassional yeasty diaper rashes which cleared up quickly with Monistat. I think all babies can get them whether or not they are allergic to yeast. My doc says that yeast just thrives in warm, wet environments….like diapers. She says to use the monistate twice a day and to continue for several days after the rash appears to be gone to prevent it from recurring.

InactiveWhenever Kaelyn accidentally eats one of the foods that she is allergic to she develops a diaper rash that looks like a yeast infection. It’s not because she is allergic to yeast, it’s due to eating one of the things that she is allergic to.
Henry is older than Kaelyn was when we initially did allergy testing. Could you ask his ped to refer you to an allergist? If you tested him you might figure out what’s bothering both of them. I never would have figured out that Kaelyn was allergic to apples or peaches without the testing.

InactiveWe just had Henry’s blood drawn this morning for allergy tests. One of them was yeast. we’ll see.
I failed to mention in my post (I was typing holding a screaming baby0
that I tested positive years ago for an allergy to yeast in the air as well as yeast in food. It was so bad they thought I had classic candidiasis, but I didn’t. It was just that I was so allergic. It doesn’t surprise me that we are dealing with this. And I’ve always wondered about sugar in Henry’s diet. Never thinking that yeast feeds on sugar.
I’m not sure what I’ll do. I’ll have to talk to the allergist about all this.
I do know it’ll help me to be on the yeast free diet. I was asking for me as well as Henry.
I’ve been doing some searching and found brown rice is ok. That’s a godsend. That allows for us to eat a lot. We should cut the potatoes though and we do a lot of those

I found out eggs, mayonaise and almonds to be ok. That helps.
Any more ideas are welcome on this. I need all the help I can get.
I can’t believe this happened. I just can’t take anymore. It’s just one thing after another since her delivery. whine whine whine

InactiveWow, I truly sympathize with your diet! First off, you are such an inspiration to be bfeeding in this situation. Way to go that you are still on board nursing with all these limitations.

Can you have hummus? Nut butters? Avacado? This saved me with my dairy/soy/gluten/beef free diet. Eggs also saved us. I’m so sorry you are also having to remove yeast…at least you can have brown rice!
Does yeast removal also nix the rice cream ice creams for you? I’ve just found this great Karma rice cream — we even like their plain vanilla. Also, Celestial Seasonings does a yummy Vanilla Hazelnut Fudge rice cream flavor. Just thought I would throw these out there. I really hope you solve the dilemma and at least feel better yeast-free.

InactiveThanks Anne.
The only rice cream I’ve found has soy in it. I’ll have to look for the other ones you mentioned.
Although, with the yeast free right now, I’m trying to avoid sugars. Well, ice cream is a big one and I can’t get enough of it. I’m thinking the yeast in my body is making me crave sugar to feed it. It’s a catch 22 isn’t it?
Makes me feel better knowing others out there are on limited diets as well. Thanks for sharing!!

InactiveYou are such a dedicated mommy!

I’m pretty sure I saw “brown rice pasta” in the health food’s section of my grocery store. Maybe check out your local health food store. They often have all kinds of alternative food products for people with allergies and intolerances.

InactiveThank you Christine. I try to be. I just do what I need to do, ya know?
Thank the lord for rice pasta!!! I love to mix shredded beef with it as a meal. It’s so good, I haven’t even experimented with other meats yet.
