Help with med

Hi all,

This is not reflux related, but we have been having some problems with Carter and his breathing. Just spent yesterday at the hospital, for the 2nd time with the same thing in the last couple of months, and they are not sure why he is in distress. When we give him steriods, that is helping, and we still don’t know the cause.

We have used the liquid form of the steriod both times with success but I have had them filled and administered immediately. I now have some on hand, so we know what to do when it happens again. Long story short, I am curious about the stability of the liquid forms of steroids and I know we have a pharmacist or two on the board (FORGIVE me for not remembering who you are). I don’t want to have a false sense of security if it is going to go bad and not help when I need it.

I would call the pharmacy, but as we all know, that is not always reliable information either……

Any ideas? TIA!

What is the steroid and I will talk with my hubby and see what he says. Also is there a package insert, it might be on that as well.

It is liquid prednisone. I don’t have the mgs/ml as it is as home, but if you need that I can get it tonight after work.

Hubby said to check the date on the bottle, unless it was sitting around in the pharmacy for an extended period it should be good for at least 6 months, possibly longer depending on the expiration date. It is commerically made so there shouldn’t be any stability issues. Hope this helps.

Are they thinking Asthma, given prednisolone is for that and other allergies. They gave it to Alana recently when she had her allergic rash and it worked like a charm, great stuff!
