InactiveWell, we’ve been off for a bit too much happening at once. As everyone knows, the baby had pyloric stenosis and had successful surgery @ 3 weeks of age. He is 12 weeks tomorrow and weighs 16 lbs!!!
He is now on 8 oz bottles, about 8 a day (ouch, yeah).
Anyways, he still spits up/throws up, and I know he also has reflux. I talked to his dr about it, she didn’t feel he was bad enough to put him on anything. Then last Thursday he aspirated through his nose and I called again, told them that he was getting 2 ml of maalox (what the pharmacist recommended) once or twice a day and the nurse reemed me out. We used it with my daughter too, recommended by her doctor, so I don’t understand why in Ontario it’s ok, but not out in Alberta. We go tomorrow to be put on something because I told he nurse that I am not going to let him scream at every feeding or after every feeding because he is in pain.
Besides that, he is a REALLY happy baby, he is always trying to sit up on his own, he’s always smiling, loves to stand up, plays with his toys, pulls my hair, reaches and grabs for things. He’s doing really well developmentally.
Anyways, the surgen said to put rice pablum in his food to thicken it and I do that but he gets diaherra. Even when he is spoon fed the pablum, still gets diaherra.
Is this normal? I also tried oatmeal, but still diaherra. Does anyone know if babies who have had stenosis surgery take to solids different then normal babies? I did also try a lactose formula, but there wasn’t much difference.
Thanks all!

InactiveI don’t know about the stenosis surgery, but it seems weird that rice is giving him diarrhea. It usually causes constipation.

InactiveOk, we went to the dr, they FINALLY gave us prevacid, he is also on organic brown rice pablum now and is doing pretty good with it…and he is also on YoBaby yogurt, also doing excellent on that!
They said that it is possible that the stenosis surgery would cause him to have digestive issues for a while since it can take up to 9 months to fully heal. And that’s when they recommended me giving him yogurt to rebuild all the good bacteria in his gut. He hasn’t had diaherra since I started giving him the brown rice and the yogurt, and isn’t as gassy either 😀
Happy happy 🙂

InactiveThanks for the update.
I’m glad to hear he’s doing well. Is he still in pain from reflux? Is that why he’s on Prevacid now? I hope it works well for him. It was the miracle cure for my little guy.

InactiveHe was in pain yes, and even aspirated through his nose. She said it could take about 2 weeks to really start working, so we will see how it works!
