Just to let you know the reason they say ppi’s are not safe is the fda does not recommend it for babies under a year, but then again pretty much nothing is fda approved for under a year.
I can tell you from my experience my first son had severe reflux for 9 months. He did not start sleeping until 7 months. When I say that I mean he would wake every hour on the hour until he was 7 months old. He cryed about 20 hrs a day. He was on Prevacid and the dose was never correct and never increased. He was also on Zantac which wore off in a week as do all H 2 blockers. Few babies have success with h2 blockers. All that to say that Dr Phillips talked to my ped. and she put my newest baby on Zegerid and the correct dose that Dr Phillips suggested. It is amazing!!!!!!!!!!! This baby is so happy and rarely ever cries. Sometimes I question his sleeping, but he sleeps and I think I am expecting too much from a 3 month old baby. Please do all the research you can and educate your babies doc. It is my hope that someday peds and gi’s will know exactly how to treat babies with reflux. I don’t think many babies are truely having relief. I think peds and gi’s will medicate babies to appease (sp?) the parents, but I don’t think the babies are being helped. It is truely sad.
