InactiveFor those of you who have experience with allergies, are hives typically seen with food allergies and if so, where are they found on the body?
Hailey has had hive type welts on her back and stomach for a while now. They come and go. I always thought that they were irritation from her diaper because they were usually found around the area where the diaper would rub her back or stomach. But tonight when I gave her her bath I noticed that she had about 10 of them on her back and her bum and a couple on her chest. They’re only a bit raised so I don’t actually know if they’re hives or not.
What do you think? Do you know what else it could possibly be?

InactiveKaelyn’s allergic reactions started as eczema and turned to hives. Hers were on her tummy and back and then spread to her arms and legs. She also had what we thought was a diaper rash, but was actually more like hives there as well.

InactiveI agree with Kim – definitely sounds like milk allergy/intolerance
showing up – I know you’ve long suspected Hailey is MSPI – this could
be a big clue. Can this help convince your Ped to do the endoscopy
which could show milk allergy?May 30, 2006 at 1:29 pm #8776Anonymous
InactiveIt could be eczema though they tend to look a lot alike! Has anything in her diet changed? Isaac gets eczema all over and it usually does come in patches of the same area. Another thought is maybe it is a diaper issue-we couldn’t use huggies for a while b/c of allergy to something in the diaper and it didn’t start until a while of using them. I would call the ped and see if you can give her some benadryl if she is itchy all over or put some hydrocortisone on it. I hope it clears up soon!

InactiveThanks for your responses. Somehow I forgot about this thread! I’m wondering if it’s the diaper irritating her skin, and her having sensitive skin, if you hold her or something. But I’m not discounting MSPI- the fact that she’s been up 10 times a night shrieking also makes me wonder. I’m at a loss. Our scope was recently changed from July 11 to the middle of September, so no luck there. GRRRRR…

InactiveHave you thought about trying a fortified soy or rice milk. They are flavored sometimes and actually taste good to me. That may help if it is a milk issue.

InactiveThanks Sarah. We do soy milk right now- started off with just a few drops mixed into 4 ounces of water and took us 2 months to work up to full strength. Some days she’ll drink about 3 ounces of it a day, others a few sips and toss the sippy on the floor.

InactiveReally does sound like MSPI to me – so tough because I know Hailey
won’t drink much… I have heard from some that the vanilla rice milk
tastes better than soy milk though? -
