InactiveHi all, I tapped this topic in the Specialists section, but wanted to post it here too.
Has anyone ever tried a homemade raw cow’s milk formula?Goat’s milk formula?Liver based formula?Here’s my earlier post: https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11232July 10, 2008 at 11:26 am #53664Anonymous
InactiveIMO< I wouldn’t. We actually had a HUGE family fight over this when my ds was smaller. My MIL thought my ds should be on goats milk, I flat out refused. Oh, the drama. Anywho, if your little one has a true milk protein intolerance it won’t help. The proteins in goats milk are SO similar to the proteins in cows milk.
I have been researching chiropractors a little. They are really into breastfeeding, non-vaccinating, non-medicating type stuff. I take everything mine says with a grain of salt, but that’s just me

InactiveThanks for the input. I tried the recipe for “fortifying a commercial formula” (only added cod liver oil) this a.m. Amanda drank 2 oz and then wouldn’t touch the bottle. I then made her 2 oz of regular Alimentum…she chugged the whole thing.
babies are smart…they know what they need.we r gonna let the chiropractor stick to chiropracting….July 10, 2008 at 7:22 pm #53689Anonymous
Inactivepersonally.. goats milk worked for us.. shane couldnt do cows milk.. but did fine on goats milk. i understand the protiens are similar.. but still not the same.. and there are a couple other different factors as well. we did the meyenburg goats milk when he was one year.. cut with some rice milk.
as for raw cows milk.. i hear its WAY more digestable..and people who cant do pasturized CAN do unpasturized.. BUT its pretty scary i think.. you have to make sure you boil it everytime.. and really get the bad bacteria out.i would still give the cod liver oil.. seperately.. not in the bottle.. it is VERY good for children and adults.. it has essential good fats , vitamin D and A that are hard to find .. and even more important in non breastfed babies. we gave shane the cod liver oil since he was 4 months old.. the nordic naturals brand. it is a very well known and trusted brand for babies. there is actually a post from a couple days ago about which fish oil to use.. and most moms use this one. i would be careful with other ones.if you dont use cod liver oil .. try flax oil.. it doesnt absorb as well as fish oil..but it is still good..hope this helps someshanesmom2008-07-10 19:23:32

if you are going to try the goats milk before age 1.. here is how to do it.. you are right.. NO WHOLE MILK before 12 months.. so here is how you make it into a “formula” ..and here is the info on how goats and cows milk are similar and differentand.. what is MISSING from it.(if you click on the link and it has you “sign up” for something.. just hit the back button.) if it still doesnt work.. google dr.sears and goats milk.shanesmom2008-07-10 19:31:35
