InactiveI came to work this morning happy that it’s finally friday. A teacher came to my room all crying and asking me if I have tissues. I ask her if she’s ok and then she tells me the news that she’s heard. One of my favorite students (don’t hate me for saying that but he was a well mannered 5 year old student) drowned in a pool last night. I didn’t cry at the moment b/c I was in a shock and could not believe what I was hearing. It was on the news last night but they never released the kid’s name so I felt sorry for the family but did not have the slightest idea that it’s my student. I saw him on Monday (I’m a speech therapist so I treat students twice a week) and he told me that he’s moving to NJ so I told him “I may never see you again, give me a hug”. When I remembered that I said that to him, I started bawling my eyes out. I feel so sad right now

InactiveI am so sorry Marianna. I’ll say a special prayer for that family and for everyone that loved him so much.

InactiveOh Marianna, I’m so sorry. Being a teacher myself, I have seen some horrible things happen to my students. Nothing even comes close to that. I teared up a bit just reading the article and reading your “good-bye” to him. Take care.

InactiveSo sorry! That is just devastating for a family and all involved!

We have a boat and used to spend a lot of time at the lake, but it’s much harder with little ones! I’m also scared to death of what might happen, I seem to imagine the worst senerios and can’t really enjoy myself with them there!

Will be thinking of you and the family!

InactiveMarianna,
I am SO sorry this happened. It’s so hard to understand these things. Being a christian, I always try and make sense of it thinking that(pardon my soapbox
)God has a plan but honestly, that’s a LOT easier to say then it is to actually believe with all of your heart when a tragedy like this happens. Gosh, that is just so sad. My heart aches for you. I’m sitting here at my computer trying to think of something inspiring and uplifting to say(I’ve been thinking for a good 5 min.), and all I can tell you is that I’m so sorry. I’m sure all involved will heal from this eventually but sometimes you just have to feel the sadness to get through. Not very uplifting I know
I’m rambling….anyway, I’ll be thinking of you and this sweet boy’s family tonight

InactiveI’m so sorry Marianna.

The only advice I have on how to cope is to try to remember that it is our feelings that make us human and that God created us to feel and express the whole gamut of emotions. We are actually created in His image, and to be like Him, in that we have the capacity to love and care for others, but having that ability to love and care for others also makes us vulnerable to grief and despair. Remember too that God understands because He too grieves along with us.

InactiveI am so sorry to hear your news. My very first year of teaching one of my fifth graders died while riding his bike. It was awful. It was really hard to deal with personally, but the hardest part was trying to help my students understand. I can’t even imagine how I’d deal with it now. I find that things like this impact me so much more now that I have children of my own. I’m always thinking that it could easily have been my child. You, your school community and the child’s family will be in my prayers.

Inactivemarianna,
i can relate to you and the family as well. my cousin died 2 years ago this summer by drowning as well. he was only 7. i am not sure if you heard of it.. it was on a ride @ playland ( an amusement park) in NY. and it was a boat ride and it went in a tunnel.. we think he got scared and went to get off but he got stuck under the boat by the chains. .. therefor causing his drowning.
anyhow, i can tell you personally that his family is going through such tradgedy right now.. that words cannot express ..probably even feelings of guilt on themselves(not sure if they were there though). i symphathize with you.. it is the WORST way ever to lose a child. and i would reach out to the mom or dad if at all possible (if you knew them) and i would pray for them. it is so hard to go through..and takes a toll on the marriage as well.
as for the christian aspect. well.. i am a christian too.. my cousins father is a pastor as well. and let me tell you, after something like this is sure shakes your beliefs and causes you to find what you truley believe all over again and causes you to really live by faith afterwards.. it doesnt FEEL like there is a God caring for you and your family… but there is… and its so hard to understand for a while.
anyways, i am going on and on… if you need someone to talk to .. you can always pm me! again, i am sorry for you lost.. and i will keep the family in my prayers.

InactiveI’m so sorry to hear about this little boy.
It’s so tragic. I’ll certainly be praying for his family and those who knew him.June 22, 2007 at 7:07 pm #37652Anonymous
InactiveLauren, yes, I remember the story. Sorry to hear that your family had to go through such terrible times.
Everyone, thank you for you kind words and your prayers. I just hope his family pulls through these tough times. I know his parents somewhat but how do you find words of wisdom when someone loses a child? I called DH crying and telling him that I am never leaving Ariella near water alone even for a second. I know I’m being paranoid but…(sigh) Anyway, thank you all again. Your kind words help a lot.
