How long does milk protein stay in mom?

Oh my gosh ladies I need your help here…

For anyone who has– or has a child who has– a cow’s milk allergy, how long does dairy stay in the system? I thought I could get away with some cheese tortellini last night…..I was wrong. Emmett got really bad reflux after I nursed him and his cheek broke out in a rash almost right away! Guess that confirms the cow’s milk allergy once and for all. I was pretty sure before but now I am 100% positive. Anyhow–what a bummer to pump and dump! But I had to. His last three feedings were just formula because I didn’t want to give him a reaction. How long will this dairy protein stay in my system, when can I nurse again? Channy2007-1-15 10:38:35

How long had you been off dairy previously. I know I have read that it can take up to 2 weeks to rid the body of milk protiens, but I think that is more for when you are going off the first time. I would say if all you had was one thing with dairy, then really it should only be for a few feedings, but I might pump and dump for a few days to be sure.
