InactiveWe started a Neocate trial with Alexandra ten days ago. Her stools have definitely changed. She actually has formed bowel movements now. But that’s about the only positive. For the first few days, she was also doing better with refusing the bottle. But now, she’s fighting it again. Plus, the rash is still all over her legs and she still has a patch of eczema on her face that might actually be getting worse. I know that people have posted that it can take 2 to 3 weeks to work, but how long should I wait? She has a check up on Monday and I was hoping to be able to show him that it’s working and ask for a prescription, so I can try to get insurance to cover it. However, if I don’t see some improvement soon, I might just switch back to Nutramigen.

I should add that she has a vicious cold, so that could be contributing to the bottle refusal, making all of this so much harder to figure out!

InactiveHi Kim,
Any possibility that anything else is the culprit? Are you giving any solids at all or cereal?
I would stick it out a little longer, but it sounds like something is still bothering her. Could you try the Neocate along with a PPI and see if that helps?
I can’t believe she is already 6 months old!!!!!

InactiveShe’s not getting anything else right now. We are trying to wait to intro solids until we get this resolved. I do think that I’ll discuss PPIs with the doctor to see if that would help with the bottle refusal, but that doesn’t explain the rash.
I know – I can’t believe how fast time has gone by! She’s a rolling fiend, and she’s already doing a funky army crawl to get around the room. She’s fascinated by Kaelyn and is always trying to reach for her and her things, so I think a lot of the moving is in an effort to get nearer to Kaelyn.

Inactivethere is an article on here that actually says neocate can take months to work. the older the baby, the longer they were exposed to damaging proteins.
here is the article:

InactiveNatalia, I love the new picture of Trace. He’s adorable. And thanks for that link. I’d forgotten about that. How do you remember these things??
Kim, I hope things improve soon. Maybe a PPI would do the trick. Myles and Ellie didn’t have any MSPI issues but they refused to eat because of reflux. Prevacid solved the problem for Myles.

Inactivethanks!
that article is so important to me because its what lead me to put Trace on neocate which he really needed!
and i also agree that a PPI could be beneficial. -
