InactiveSarah is FINALLY cutting her molars. I feel like I have been waiting forever for this to happen!! She has already started cutting her bottom left molar and the top left side also feels reallllllllllllllllly squishy. Almost gross, really! She has been very uncomfortable through all of this, so she has been on round the clock motrin or tylenol for FOUR days now. How long can I continue to give round the clock meds? The dr. sears website says tylenol and motrin can ‘safely be given round the clock for several days’. How many is several?? I asked the sitter her opinion this morning (she is NOT quick to medicate and has been giving Sarah meds 2x per day while in her care). She said “As long as it takes for her to feel better”. I agree…but how much is too much?
What have your doctors told you? What have you done?
I’m glad honestly that for ONCE she is cutting more than one tooth at a time. Teething has always been excruciating for Sarah so to get a few taken care of at one time is a positive….but she’s miserable without meds! HELP! amy0013 2007-10-02 22:50:43 October 3, 2007 at 6:09 am #43680Anonymous
InactiveI think as long as you are following the instructions on the bottle you are fine. We have also done this when necessary. Once the teeth poke through (sounds like VERY soon) then you can stop as the pain should be not as much at all.
Maybe call the doctor and see what they say? We don’t do motrin because it can be acid producing, so I would just make sure you are giving it with food.October 3, 2007 at 9:39 am #43688Anonymous
InactiveWe asked Bryce’s cardiologist this once (we just happened to see her when he was teething once). She told us it was perfectly safe over long periods of time as long as you are giving the correct dose, of course. I was still a little nervous about it too. I worried about him developing a resistance to it and it not working for him anymore (I don’t even know if that’s possible) but apparently it’s okay. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer for her! Bryce is a horrible teether too so I know how it is! Good luck.

InactiveTaylor’s teething is horrible as well, still working on her last molar and it still has not popped out yet and it has been almost 2 months now, her other 3 are out but this 4th one is a killer! We used tylenol in the daytime and Motrin everynight. I was very sparing with the daytime medications since I could typically distract her or give her something cold or wash clothes to munch on and it would make her happy. We also used homepathic drops called Camilla especially at night, it really seemed to relax her so she would not have a restless night sleep due to teething, not more than the usual restlessness.

InactiveI think you are safe for at least 7 days, probably longer, I can ask dh when he gets home from the pharmacist standpoint and I will try to pm you when/if he gives me an answer worthy of letting you know. I have a feeling he is going to say as long as you need too as that is pretty much what he has told me to do with Cooper, if he is pain give him tylenol that is what he always tells me, so that is what I do… teething is such a bear. We are cutting our 2 front teeth and boy is he cranky….
