how many oz is enough?

My 2 month old Aidan eats an ounce every 2 hours (sometimes every hour and a half and sometimes it’s 2 ounces) once in a blue moon he’ll go wild and eat four ounces..I told the nurse last time I called her that he was only eating 2 oz and she seemed fine with that, although I realized that b/c he has formula in his bottle by the time the stuff had settled after he was finished eating he had actually only eaten an ounce….His weight is fine, more than fine actually although he seems to be a bit thinner than a few weeks ago..maybe he’s just longer…but I’m worried about him not getting the right amount of nutrients for proper brain development..etc….I tried the formula without adding the cereal..and he was VERY quick to voice his displeasure with that and went back to the screaming, wet burps, etc……..

ok so I DID mean he has cereal in his bottle WITH the formula-lol not just formula (I’m tired)

Are you able to take him and get him weighed? If he is putting on weight then he should be getting the nutrients out of the food. I think Tyler was having about 3-4oz at that age, but he could go about 3 hours between feeds. You need to look at what he has over the whole day, lots of small feeds will add up to alot over a whole 24 hour period.

Hailey only took about 1.5-2 oz every 2 hours at that age…and that was unthickened. It was tough to watch her take so little, but she never seemed dehydrated from it thankfully, and she still gained on it. s&h’s mum2006-2-7 3:16:9

Hailey and Aidan sound a lot alike..that’s all he really ever eats ( except those few times he for some reason ate 4 oz) and yeah he is never dehydrated and, as he’s downright chubby…I just don’t get it…just does not seem right for a baby to sleep all night then wake up and eat just half an ounce…

Noah ate about 2 oz every 2 hours at that age. I was syringing a lot of his feeds because he wasnt interested in eating back then. And at 10 months old, he still isnt interested. If Aidans weight is good and he has adequate wet and poopy diapers, then I’d say he is doing great.

At that age, Kaelyn only ate 2 oz every 2 to 3 hours. If she got any more than that, her spitting got much worse. As she got older, we were able to add more to each bottle and spread out the feedings. She never got to more than 4 oz per bottle though.
