InactiveJust wondering if someone could tell me how much rice cereal to use to thicken 1 cup of formula. im using neocate so i don’t want to try alot in case it doesn’t work. the stuff costs to d##n much
also i don’t know how to do the y cut on the dr. browns nipples and what flow should i use??

Inactivei would not recommend y cut nipples. my son choked the whole time. they actually sell those because if you try to do it yourself they tend to stretch out and they get too big.
i do one teaspoon per ounce of beechnut cereal (the only brand with no soy) and i would used a level 2 or 3. try the 2 first otherwise he might choke.October 16, 2006 at 6:48 pm #15832Anonymous

Inactivesorry i forgot i wanted to ask you natalia, i started neocate on friday and just had some questions…
dd has foul smellin gas like sulfer, is this normal for neocate???
also her poop is dark and thinner now.
how long does it take for the neocate to kick in??
she still is refluxing and the doctor basically told me that the neocate wouldn’t stop her from refluxing, is this the truth??
so thickening her feedings is my last resort. if this doesn’t work is it true that even though the milk is coming out of her nose there is nothing more to do??? it just seems like it should be better under control with all the meds and the neocate. but as the doc says she’s going too reflux regardless??? is this the truth??? what about the long term effects?? i am still so confused

Inactiveokay the gas and poop are normal .neocate has long chain fatty acids, which can cause this.
my son was on a high dose of zegerid and alimentym, he did fine for a while and then the reflux startign hurting him again, and thats how i knew he needed neocate.
now he still spits up but it doesnt hurt him and he eats with no pain or fussiness.
if she is still refluxing and it *hurts* her or if she is in pain, i would say to up the PPI dose. if she spits up but is not bothered then its fine.
neocate works by healing the GI tract, so it doesnt hurt their esophogus anymore when they spit up, and if they are on the right dose of PPI.
the neocate worked in about a day, and i mixed it slowly with alimentum because of the bad taste.did you read this arcitle??
https://www.infantreflux.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=6013&a mp;a mp;a mp;KW=misconceptionsand yes i have some simply thick but i havent used it yet because the doc said she wasnt sure if it was okay for babues, though i know some moms use it.

Inactiveyes when she spits up she is still in pain b/c the formula comes out of her nose. but she does not scream and cry when she is eating. i really think that i want to try zegrid b/c prevacid is so complicated

Inactiveyeah my son still screams when it comes out of his nose, but that is not necessarily because its acidic or anything but because its very uncomfortable having liquid comeout your nose! it happened to me once and it burned!!

Inactiveso basically there is nothing we can do about the formula coming out of the nose even w/ the meds, neocate and everything else we do??
are the doctors right when they say it just takes time???
