InactiveI need some advice…
Adriana goes to bed at 7ish and gets up at 7ish. Well, she wakes at around 3 or 4 AM alot and will not go back to sleep for like an hour or so. I have been trying to get her off of the night time bottle that she used to get at 3 or 4 AM. Latley I have been feeding her at 11ish before I go to bed, but she still seems to wake at 3 or 4AM most of the time. Sometimes I give in and feed her at that time and she will go right back to sleep.
Should I continue that bottle before I go to bed? Should I just get up and feed her when she wakes at 3:oo/4:oo?
Whats the best way to wean that night time feeding?

Inactivethis is just my opinion, but I would stop feeding her at 11 and keep the 4am feeding. I think babies know what they need, and if she is hungry at 4am, she is going to wake up. A lot of babies don’t sleep through the night at her age, and to go from 7pm until 3 or 4 is great. I would give her at least a few more months until you start to direct the night feedings. I know a lot of people don’t agree with that, but I never woke Brianna to eat (which meant I fed her at 3 or 4 until about 7 months) but one day or night I should say, she just didn’t wake up…and we never looked back.

InactiveI agree with Emily. First, waking her at 11 pm may actually be interrupting her night time sleep cycle. Second, I do agree that not all babies at her age are sleeping all night. My girls were no longer eating at night, but Myles needed that 3 or 4 am feeding until he was about six months old.
Does she seem genuinely hungry at that time…like she greedily sucks down 5 or 6 ounces and then passes out? Or is she just drinking an ounce or two and going back to sleep? If it’s only an ounce or two she may be using the bottle to get back to sleep…..but if she’s drinking a full bottle she’s probably actually hungry.
BTW…she’s a great sleeper compared to a lot of babies!!
12 hours with one wake up for a feeding is fabulous!!March 8, 2007 at 4:48 pm #26989Anonymous
InactiveThanks for the comments. Yes, she drinks that bottle down so she is hungry, but she dosen’t cry if I don’t feed her. I think I will just keep giving her that 3am bottle.

InactiveOne of the ways I have read of weaning a bottle is to slowly offer less. Eg if she normally drinks 5 ounces only fill the bottle with 4 and so on. Also I have read the suggestion of offering water instead of milk. I guess you would soon work out (by the screaming
) if she really wanted her milk and more milk (depending on which one you tried).I’m not giving advice either way…either keeping or weaning..just offering suggestions based on what I have read if you want to wean.
In saying that Alana just gave up her bottle one night (it was the first time she drank her full quota during the day).
