Hi Ladies,
I am here for a bit of a pick me up as I am so very mad at myself right now. I will start by saying I know what I am going to post will pale in comparison to what some of you lovely ladies are going through or have gone through, but I again am so mad at myself.
I talked with dh (the pharmacist) at weaning Cooper off his Zyrtec and Singulair as he wasn’t showing any allergy symptoms since everything is dead b/c it is winter. I did this b/c I hate having him take medicine daily which is odd b/c I never hesitated to give him his prevacid and I wasn’t eager to wean off of it, but I think that was b/c I knew in my heart he wouldn’t be on it for the rest of this life!!!
Anyway Dec 5th was the last time Cooper got his Zytrec and Singulair together until last night! I caved and gave him his Zytrec again on Sunday I believe and then last night I feared the worst as his sleep had been going downhill and I gave him his singulair as well. and surprise he slept great!
I guess I am mad at myself b/c I forgot the most important thing in dealing with Cooper’s allergies.. He is allergic to EVERYTHING in the environment almost and there is always something that will aggrevate his allergies and just b/c he wasn’t showing symptoms it was b/c he was on his meds!
Now the poor thing is all congested (clear runny nose so I know it is allergies) and sounds like a frog when he is talking, which he thinks is funny… he is laughing at himself.
Now I am worried that all the congestion is going to lead to another ear infection (we just had one right after Thanksgiving)
I guess I just need all my wonderful friends to tell me I am not a horrible mommy and him being on these meds it not a big deal!
I still find it strange that I NEVER hesitated to give him his prevacid but I am so “reluctant” to do these allergy meds when our allergist said he would prbably need allergy shots when he got older!
Sorry for the ramble it is foggy and dreary here I can’t remember the last time I saw sunshine and I think i am feeling a bit down!
December 19, 2008 at 9:18 am #59733AnonymousInactiveHang in there!!!! You don’t ever know unless you try and that’s all you did! Cooper is doing great and you are a fabulous Mommy, so don’t beat yourself up! I think we had a thread at one time that told of our “mommy mistakes” and believe me, you are doing fine!!!!!
Yes, and the no sunshine thing sucks here, too!!!! No school today with the pending snow storm, so cabin fever as well.December 19, 2008 at 3:38 pm #59738AnonymousInactiveThanks Ann Marie, I have been kicking myself in the butt for several days. It isn’t like the Zyrtec is expensive as we can get almost a 3 month supply at Sam’s club for like $13 and his singulair is covered by insurance so we only pay $30 a month for it… I just feel like an idiot for trying esp since we are back in the house and have brand new carpet where he sleeps.. talk about allergy central!!
December 19, 2008 at 5:05 pm #59744AnonymousInactiveI use this company “allergy buyers club” that I get this spray from for the carpets and treat them every 30 days. Very easy!! We are mostly hardwood, but we have carpet in the bedrooms, so until I can afford to rip them out and replace with wood, we are stuck with them. I would swear by this stuff. Just spray it on, let it dry for 30 minutes and vacuum and it takes out a ton of the allergens. Also, since you just did the construction, there is probably a bunch of dust in your vents, and they also have these vent filters to try to prevent the allergens from the vents going into the air….
Still, I PROMISE you I could go head to head with the worse “mommy mistakes” and well, let’s just say NONE of us are perfect, so no worries!!!! You are a GREAT Mommy!!!!December 19, 2008 at 6:38 pm #59747AnonymousInactiveWe all make mommy mistakes… don’t beat yourself up about it!
December 19, 2008 at 9:29 pm #59749AnonymousInactiveAnn Marie, You are so right about the vents being full of dust and dirt! We have changed both filters at least 2 times in the 3 1/2 wks we have been home. I”ll have to look into the carpet spray as the entire addition we did is carpet except the bathroom as we couldn’t afford to do hardwood. The downstairs is all hardwood or ceramic tile but his room is upstairs… I am sure it will come in handy. Thanks for the tip.

You were just testing things out and now you know he needs the meds year around. Sorry you have to deal with the nasty allergies. DH had to have allergy shots as a child, but they made him immune to a lot of things now and he’s lucky enough to only need his allergy meds during the pollen drop and about 8 weeks following in the Springtime. Hopefully over time, Cooper will adjust to and outgrow some of his allergies. Huge HUGS!
December 21, 2008 at 9:24 pm #59792AnonymousInactiveWe’ve done the same thing a couple of times with Kaelyn. She’ll be doing so well (and it won’t be heavy allergy season), so we decide to take her off the allergy meds and it always comes back to kick us in the behind. You would think we’d have learned after the first time!
December 21, 2008 at 10:29 pm #59794AnonymousInactiveDon’t feel bad. I have tried twice to wean Jedd of of his full dose of Generic Claritain to no avail. It went just as horribly. It caused his reflux to flare very badly too from all the extra drainage and excessive coughing from the itchy throat.
Big hugs. Like the others have stated you would never know unless you try. -
