InactiveI sometimes wish babies came with a printout of what is wrong and what they need to fix it. We finally got our ped. to prescribe Zegerid and I was so excited but I am beginning to think he is not reacting to it well. He is pulling up his knees and he didnt have a good night last night. I think maybe it could be the dose for the bad night but I think that he might be having cramps and not reacting well to the medication. Has anyone had a similar experience and did it go away after a few days. How about knowing what to do with the dose? I think he is constipated but I am nursing him and so they can go for several days and not be constipated so it really makes it hard to know. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!!

InactiveI forgot to say he was previously on 30mg of prevacid, and it seemed to work most of the time if I could get him to eat right after the 30 min. Now we are doing 8mg three times a day of zegerid. Also, how often do you space out the medication?
I love everyones pictures of their cute babies. I am so computer illiterate, we just got a computer when I found this website. Im assuming you need a digital camera which we dont have yet. But I just wanted to say how cute these kids are!!!November 30, 2006 at 10:07 am #19299Anonymous
InactiveConstipation is one of the side effects of both Prevacid and Zegerid. Perhaps he has a tummy ache because he is constipated. Myles was constipated for a long time and I had to use a variety of remedies (prunes, pear juice, flax seed oil, etc) to help him go regularily.
How old is your baby?

Inactivemy daughter didn’t react well to zegrid either. We ended up going back to the prevacid and just doing our best with the timing.

InactiveMy little guy is four months old. How long did you try zegerid before you went back to the prevacid?

InactiveThe reason I asked his age is because some of the remedies I used to help Myles with his constipation might be too hard on a newborn’s tummy but I was using them for Myles at 4-5 months and he tolerated them fine. If he continues to be constipated you can maybe try some of them.

InactiveAbby got looser poopie when she started the Zegerid. We give her her doses at 6/6:30 AM (or whenever she gets up), around 1:30, then again at 6:30 pm before bed.
Hope things improve for your little one very soon!!

InactiveAre you doing the 20 or 40 mg pkts. Because 8 mg for the 40 mg pkts sounds way to high. i don’t know anything about the 20 mg pkts though. Also if it is constipation. A chiropractor could do wonders. My first son was on 3 meds for constipation. We went to the chiropracotr and he started going again. It was amazing!

Inactive8mg 3x daily is only 24mg per day. I don’t think it’s too high.

InactiveI only tried Zegrid for a few days…I didn’t really do much better than the prevacid for her and the side effects were worse. 🙂

InactiveI am so sorry. I thought you said 8 ml 3 x a day. That would be a lot. 8 mg is not a lot. Sorry. Thank you Lori for catching me on that. I just looked back at the post and can’t even figure out where I saw that. I think I need to go get some sleep. No, I know I need to go get some sleep.

InactiveMy son had some gas issues when we started Zegerid too. It’s been 2 weeks now, and for the most part, that has subsided. We do use Mylicon an awful lot though. He was never constipated; however, he did stop going as many times during the day and just has one explosive diaper in the mornings now. They say, from what I’ve read and heard, that it takes a couple of weeks to really know how a medication will fully affect you. But if it gets really bad, I wouldn’t wait that long.
