InactiveI POSTED LAST WEEK COHEN WAS PUT ON SOY MILK. WELL HE IS TEETHING AND HE HAD GOTTEN SICK THIS WEEK, THEY TOLD ME HE HAD A VIRUS IN HIS EYE! SO THEY PUT HIM ON DROPS. WELL HE SCREAMED ALL NIGHT HIS NOSE WAS HORRIABLE SO THEY PUT HIM ON ANTIBOTICS NOW TOO. WELL TODAY HE STARTED WITH DIRARRA AND HIS BUTT GOT VERY RED AND SORE. NOW MY QUESTIONS IS WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THE DIRARRA? IS IS THE SOY MILK? WHICH IS THAT NORMAL WHEN YOU SWITCH THEM TO SOMETHING NEW? ALSO HE HAD BLOOD WORK FOR SOY ALLERGY CAME BACK NEGITIVE! OR IS IT HIS TEETH OR MAYBE ANTIBOTICS CAUSING IT? I AM SO CONFUSED HE HAS SO MANY POINTERS AGAINST NOT SURE WHICH ONE TO BLAME IT ON! ANY SUGGESTIONS OR INFORMATION MAYBE YOU KNOW WOULD BE GREAT THANKS SO MUCH!!! SINCERLY BECKY

InactiveDiarrhea is a common side effect of antibiotics. When my girls have had the antibiotic diarrhea I would give them rice milk and it almost always binds them right up.
Teething will also cause loose stools. But, I’d bet it’s the antibiotic more than anything.
That rash they get from the antibiotic diarrhea can be nasty. You have to stay on top of it!! (My first baby had it for over a month once). Put tons of desitin on his bottom at every change. One doctor told me to put some maalox on it because it neutralizes the acid that is passed with diarrhea. The acid is what burns the skin. If you try that, you should let the maalox soak in, then pat his bottom dry and load on the desitin. (The maalox will not protect the skin like the desitin does when he poops or wets). Some air time (no diaper) also helps the bottom heal.
I hope he’s feeling better soon. I’ve been through this mess many times with my three, so I know how frustrating it is.

InactiveI guess if he is mspi, then he can’t tolerate the soy milk. An intolerance won’t show up on an allergy test. Is he really gassy too? Also, the antibiotics do cause some loose stools. Ryann had a bad week with diaper rash, we put aloe gel on her bum at night, and the whole rash was healed in the morning. It was amazing! It was also nice because it didn’t sting her when we put it on her. Hope he feels better fast!

Inactivethanks for the help the doctor stopped the antibotics and said he doesnt think its his soy milk. he thinks its a form of a allergic reactiont o it also my husband gets the same way on penncillian < sry for mis spelling. he siad that he should have had diarrhea before what he did. he started witht he diarrhea a day after being on the antibotics. he also cut two teeth after i posted so i think between all of them he had so many counters against him. he said maybe he would get a little loose stool from the soy until his body got use to it. The dierrhea seemed to stop but the rash is horriable sometimes it looks welted up is that normal? thanks for all the help!!! its great to hear advice. sincerly becky oh sry about the question with him being gassy he might pass gas once a day or every other that i know i am not sure if thats being very gassy or not he has always been like that though even on neocate.

InactiveThe rash can take a long time to go away. My daughter had it for a month once. That acidic diarrhea can really burn the skin. My daughter’s daughter said to put the desitin on really thick at every change. It will heal, but it takes time. Your little guy probably has a sensitive bottom like my daughter had. I learned with her that if she started an antibiotic to start putting desitin on her immediately to prevent the rash from ever starting. Once it’s starts it’s hard to get rid of.
Maybe some other mom’s out there have some good advice for diaper rash.
