IgG for one year old – accurate?

Hi all!

My daughter is almost 1. It has honestly been such a difficult year – SOO many feeding struggles – colic for about 3 months – then lots of crying for another 3 – and now she’s just very fussy but does have her peaceful good days which are pure bliss:).

She is MSPI for sure. She also seems to have an egg white and peanut allergy? She’s had lots of egg yolks and I decided to scramble a whole egg last week – wow – splotches ALL over her little face.

I give my dog peanuts for treats – he left one on the floor – not sure how he missed it. Anyway, she briefly got a hold of it and I immediately swiped my finger in her mouth to get it out. That was all it took and she had splotches all over her chin and sneezed/itched her ears for hours today.

Her ped wants to do a IgG blood test. Are these accurate?

Also, with reactions as I’ve described – do some kids grow out of these issues? I’m so exhausted and discouraged. It’s one thing after another.

Meantime, I think I’ll NEVER get her off of neocate! She is 1 year old and eating great solids – just super attached to her bottle.

I can help with the egg allergy, somewhat. I can say that we waited until 18 months to do any allergy testing on my son, we mainly did it for enviro issues and not foods, but he did test positive to eggs when we did his testing. I had never given him eggs prior to the testing so the only “contact” he had ever had was the brief (19 days) time that I breastfed him. He had MSPI and I am happy to report that at 4 1/2 he eats whatever he wants. We did an egg challenge a little over a year ago and he passed. The truth is my new allergist wasn’t really sure he was allergic to eggs! Reason being when they repeated his blood work at 3.5 yrs old he tested positive for wheat, corn, milk and something else and not eggs and he ate the other stuff on almost a daily basis. Now since you have seen signs of an allergy I would steer clear of the egg whites for alittle while longer (most babies can’t handle the proteins until after they are 1 yr old) and I would hold off on peanuts for as long as possible. Egg allergies are one that can be outgrown, peanut allergies are usually for life. I hope this helps some. Good Luck.
