InactiveHi everyone,
Well I got Adriana’s prevacid increased. She now takes about 18mgs a day. I took her to the doctor because she had been arching and refusing bottles. I wasn’t sure if it was teething or what. He said teething would not do that.
Anyways, he looked in this book that said for children up to 20 pounds the recommended dosage is only 7.5 mg a day!! Then once they reach 20 pounds they can get 30 mgs a day or more if needed. Isnt that weird! But he did increase it anyways. And the best part is that he really isn’t her doctor just another one at the same clinic that was filling in. Our regular ped. probably wouldn’t have increased it. I am sneaky!!

Inactivehis books are obviously not up to date.
i must say, you most likely wont see too much of a difference going from 15 mg to 18 mg. Dr Phillips once told me when i was increasing my sons meds that you have to do several more mg’s to see a difference.

InactiveGood luck. I hope the increase is enough to make her feel better. If not, you’ll have to come up with another sneaky plan.

InactiveI hope the increase works…if not, maybe next time you could put a few bricks in her diaper to get her over that 20lb mark.

InactiveWe did a slight increase like that for Sarah and DID see improvement. So much so that I have tried twice to DROP it back to the original dosage (just a 3-5 mg difference) and she was NOT a happy camper. I have actually just recently upped it back to where it was. Hopefully that slight increase will be enough for her too!

InactiveSo how long does it take to notice improvement. Today she only drank about 8 ounces and she wakes up alot at night. But she will eat her solids so at least she is getting something. It has been 3 days on the new dosage.

InactiveFor Myles I usually noticed some slight improvement in about three days after an increase, but it took 10 days for the big turn around. That didn’t happen until he was on 30 mgs. though.
I think if I was you I’d do this:
If you are certain that there’s no way your current doc will increase her dose to the marci-kids standards, and she’s doesn’t improve on the new dose, I’d email Dr. Phillips and ask him if if would be ok to give her Prevacid twice a day and Pepcid Complete at bedtime. I’ve heard that he is telling moms that Pepcid Complete is ok for babies and a few moms are using it now. I’d just want to check with him first. If he says yes it may work to divide her total daily dose of Prevacid into two doses (so 9 or 10 mgs twice a day) and then try the Pepcid Complete at bedtime. I use Pepcid Complete for my reflux and it works like a charm!
Here’s Dr. Phillips email if you want to try it. phillipsjo@health.missouri.edu
I hope she’s feeling better soon.
