Dear everyone,
Would love any info i can get on sandifers as i was reading the links in laura’s intro and although eden doesnt make the same type of movements as some of the other moms described she is definitely doing something weird. she has done these movements which we all affectionately call “The Mermaid” where intertwines one leg around the other and locks them together (there is no way you could even try to get them apart) and if you are holding her, along with these mermaid leg movements she will also brace her arms against your body and push them into you so hard (extremely painful for us and her) and locks them into position and just rocks back and forth trying to get through the pain. i am probably describing this in a stupid way but it is hard to describe. i never though that there was anything wrong with her, just thought it was colic and that she was working through it herself. and just thought it was some quirky little thing that she did….
she is not a whingey baby and she has done this mermaid thing since she was small but i always thought it was colic. no doc i have spoken to seems concerned about it but when reading thru laura’s welcome intro for what seems like the millionth time combing through the wealth of info there i got curious as to what sandifers actually was and thought that it sounds similar to what eden is doing. her eyes dont roll back in her head however and it doesnt seem to me like she is having a seizure like some other moms described but she is definitely doing the rigid body posturing and she seems to shut her eyes when she does it and doesnt want to be disturbed. it is like she is working through the pain by herself.
anyway to get to the point, she has always done this and some days were worse than others but i wasnt too concerned about it until i read about the sandifers. i know that alot of moms said that their baby’s symptoms cleared up with correct PPI dosing (eg. Jonah) . but eden doesnt seem to be getting better. she has been on lansoprazole sachets 30mg a day for just under a month now and she also has just started her CaraCream (as i am in australia, the non-compete agreement doesnt apply here and so I have been able to get it)
she started the caracream on saturday so has been on it for 3 days now (still 30mg a day) but she actually seems to be in more pain since i put her on the caracream. she also doesnt like the taste which was totally unexpected as i had read different posts saying that most babies loved the caracream. anyway have been putting it into her bottles so she cant taste it, and she is definitely drinking all of her bottles so she is getting the whole dose but i am just wondering did anyone else experience the same sort of thing with the caracream???? there is no way i want to take her off it now, it is so convenient being able to put it into her bottles and not have to have the waiting times before and after like the normal enteric coated sachets. also i hated having to try to get those annoying little beads into the syringe and into her mouth so i do love the caracream but it seems to be making her mermaid movements worse and i just hate seeing my little girl in so much pain….. help me figure this out please moms……
also cant remember if i mentioned it, but any info relating to the rigid body posturing or sandifers syndrome would be appreciated if you think it is applicable here. i have read the info in laura’s welcome intro too and i think i read somewhere in there that there was info on the marci-kids website about the rigid body posturing, but i couldnt find it anywhere. any info or opinions would be greatly appreciated. cant wait to here from you all.
Thanks in advance….
