InactiveI don’t know if you all saw it on Oprah yesterday, but Micheal Moore was there promoting his new film on Insurance companies in the US, “Sicko”. (Regardless on whether you like him or hate him, this movie is worth watching.) It looks amazing and hopefully will really open people’s eyes to what is going on with private insurance companies-a billion dollar industry. He said the US is number 37 when it comes to countries ranked by good health care! That really is unacceptable to me….the US has a lot of things backwards but this is actually killing people! If you tivo’ed it, go back and watch it. I really hope our government gets this figured out…that people’s health shouldn’t realy on whether an insurance company approves or denies a claim.
Our insurance company would not cover Addy’s Neocate which was her only source of food from 7 months until 16 months (almost a year)! They said they would only cover it if she had a feeding tube or was placed in the hospital. They would cover bottles of Neocate in the hospital but not for me to feed her at home, are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the rant, but I am furious over this.

InactiveI didn’t see the program but I am pretty disgusted by the way our health insurance companies are controlling doctors and dictating the medical care we receive. However, I think the democrat’s plan for govt health care would be a disaster. I don’t know what the answer is…..

InactiveI am disgusted too! I am not a democrat or republican…strange I know! Our gov. has to get this figured out and if this film helps, I am all for it!

InactiveUGGHHHHHHH…I hate these insurance companies. It’s disgusting how they are run. I grew up in Russia where the med. care was free and no one told you what you could and couldn’t do (well, not everything was available, but that’s a different story). In any case, I think that something needs to be done. While ins companies make their millions, a lot of people’s health is at risk and that’s unacceptable.

InactiveWe have a public health system in Aus, and yeh it has its faults, but it is a 1000 times better than a private one. We have the option of “upgrading” to private, but honestly we don’t bother a lot of the time because the public facilities were we live (and I work) are fantastic.

InactiveTherese,
If it wasn’t so darn hot down there, I’d move to Australia!! Oh, and I’m scared of big bugs, snakes, scorpions, and things like that. But you guys really seem to have it made down there!!

InactiveHot, only in Queensland. I am down the bottom end…near Antartica!!!!
I didn’t even know we had scorpions….sh*te….I may have to move away!!!!
But seriously, I have only ever seen about 20 snakes in my lifetime and only 19 have tried to bite me

InactiveThat shows you how ignorant I am about Australia.
I thought all of Australia was hot and tropical. So what’s the weather like where you live? You probably don’t have scorpions then, so you don’t have to move, unless you want to avoid the snakes.

InactiveWell, the winter temp where I am ranges between 10 degrees celsius (50 F) and 20 degrees celsisu (68 F) during the day and goes down to about 0 degrees celsius (32 F) at night. Its never snowed where I live but it dose snow in the “high country” which is about 3 hours drive away.
In summer it can get up to 40 degrees celsius (104 F) during the day but only for a few days, its usually between 25 and 30 degrees celsius (86 F).
I’m sure we probably do have scorpians but really its the sharks you have to watch. And the snakes and I have come to an understanding, I won’t try and kill them if they don’t try to bit me (although most are endangered species…if you can believe it…and you are not supposed to kill them…boo hoo..)

You’re not supposed to kill poisonous snakes?! Not that I have any idea how you’d kill a snake anyway.
Hmmm…..sounds like you have pretty nice weather. I prefer a colder climate so I’m probably in the right place. We tend to have several months of below zero temps (down to -30 commonly with wind chill), and summers are usually in the 80’s, but humid which I don’t like.

Yeh, go figure. Well you either need a shot gun or a very very very long handled knife
. I’ve only ever seen them in the bush though. I have had friends who live on farms who have found them crawled up on the back door step or worse still slithering in side. Yikes. I hate snakes. -
