InactiveSo, my ds was diagnosed with MSPI on Friday and immediately put on Alimentum and had his prevacid dosage increased. Prior to Friday he was basically refusing all solids (loved them before) and shuddering/gagging on the solids and the only way he would take the bottle was if it was diluted with pedialyte. He was also having explosive blow-outs right after a bottle. Now he is guzzling down 8 ounces of formula (6ounces Alimentum and 2 ounces soy as we are still transition) as well as eating a jar of stage2 food at least 2 times a day. Yesterday evening he was up eating every 2 hours and is screaming for food. he actually took 36 ounces of formula and 2 jars of food yesterday. is this normal or is he now comfort eating? The blow-outs have completely stopped also.

InactiveWOW. Maybe he was just so darn hungry before and he’s making up for it now. If he’s keeping it all down and he’s happy, that’s great. I would think that if he’s comfort eating and overeating, he would probably have little tummy aches and lots of spitting up.
He may be going through a growth spurt, too.
I’m glad to hear is doing better on Alimentum and Prevacid.

InactiveI wouldn’t worry about it. It sounds like he’s finally able to enjoy eating!

InactiveI think that many of our kids eat so little sometimes because they are uncomfortable & we get used to this amt. When that amt increases I know I would worry. I agree that it is either a growth spurt or that he is finally feeling so good right now he just wants to eat whenever he can.

InactiveI’ve heard that often, babies try to make up for lost calories once
they feel better. This happened to my friend’s twins once they went on
Neocate – they jumped up a LOT in formula and food intake. It gradually
settled back down a bit – as long as he seems comfortable and happy
eating I think it’s OK!April 3, 2006 at 12:20 pm #5267Anonymous
InactiveWell, today he is not eating anything at all. Guess I spoke too soon.

InactiveMy son’s not eating much these last two days either. I’m learning not to panic about it. Even babies without any digestive issues have days when they eat a whole lot and days when they eat much less.
Does your baby seem happy? Comfortable?
My little guy has a cold and is teething. His reflux always gets worse when he’s ill and when he’s teething.
